I'll be danged. I was under the impression the last year for the 220D was 1973. That's definitely a W115 220D though and it definitely is a 1974. Ya learn something everyday.

Binz was (is?) a well known company for wagon conversions.

Current DOT regulations do not allow for the importation of any station wagon or Hearse conversions based on MB cars. Factory cars are allowed.

Therefore this body style of this vintage will continue to be as rare tomorrow in the USA as they are today.

Something to consider if one is thinking of making an investment in an older car.

The asking price is at least 50% of the last 108 Universal I found for sale.

I thought anything 25+ years old was fair game. And why would M-B be treated differently from any other maker?

Personally, I doubt that a gov't bureauc-nt would know the difference between a factory model and conversion of that age.
