Of The Top Ten Stupid Things....

.... that people could do, this has to rank right up there -

Secession petitions filed on White House Web site

Sign your name to a petition advocating secession, and then send it straight to the government.

(Double face palm)

Why not just make the following phone call - "Hello, DHS? I'd like to request my name be added to the domestic terrorist watch list. Can you forward me to the IRS? I'd like to have them audit my taxes each year for the next decade".

Fer gawd's sake, even NJ and NY? Hell, why bother - half of NY and NJ is already living down here anyway!

Perhaps that's why Christie didn't run for POTUS this time - that sly dog was planning on going "indie" in a big way.

For those people in the states that are "virgins" at this secession biz - uh guys, we already tried this about 150 years ago - it didn't turn out that well - it REALLY REALLY sucks when the US Army comes marching thru, kills all the menfolk, does unspeakable things to your women, does even more unspeakable things to your livestock (if there ain't enough women to go round), burns down your house and barn, tramples all your crops, and in general steals anything that isn't nailed down. I think they were just a mite teed off about that whole Fort Sumter thing...

No one is declaring war. They are ASKING to secede. As I recall, somewhere in the first amendment it still says we have the right to petition the government.
Yes, I know about Sherman and his treatment of SC. When I was in Lancaster, Oh. a few years back, it was all I could do to keep from pissing on the statue of him they have in the town square.
Could the government figure out who signed and harrass them? Sure. Would they? No.
Is the country really that polarized? Mostly in the view of the folks who make money telling us how polarlized we are. I don't think there is anyone on this board or in the country that fits as neatly in the left/Right slots the media and demagogues claim. Practically everyone on this board enjoys wrenching on an MB. We already have a lot in common. Probably more than we think. I would work on a Benz or sit down and have a beer with anyone on this board, wouldn't you?

WH petitions list

Reading through the various petitions it seems like there are some real nutcases out there.

Looks to me like they probably need to allow a little more time for ppl to sign them.

I would have signed this one if I had known about it in time,

I love it that so many forums' members are advancing the notion for the President to allow us to "succeed" I mean, who could argue with that?

OK, maybe the Prof. was a little premature. But...

As if Things Weren't Bad Enough, Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.-WSJ (Yes, the article is 4 years old.)

Perhaps you did not see the election results. Ky (and probably TN, even if they gave us Al) do not wish to join the New England states. Actually, we were a border state once and did not enjoy it.

Particularly amusing are the ones that ask to deport everyone who signed a petition for their state to secede. More sigs on those than on the secession petitions.
I also like the one asking for Austin TX to secede from TX but remain part of the U.S.

Merely passing on an article I remember seeing which seemed timely given the secession talk.

NY and NJ should secede! We're sending enough of our money to the c*nts in DC without getting much of it back (thanks for nothing, FEMA). We'd be better off without Dumberica, and they'd would be better off without us. And yes, the finance industry would continue, especially if we enacted strict secrecy laws to make the Swiss look like pikers.

Well, if anyone couldn't tell, my OP was tongue in cheek.

The part about DHS? Maybe not so much. Napolitano doesn't strike me as the brightest bulb in the bunch. Seems I remember a couple years back she advocated adding veterans to the list of groups to keep an eye on - because of their military training, tendency to lean right, and possible PTSD due to combat experience - that they were likely candidates to join RWNJ militia groups.

That, and the part about the livestock - especially if aklim is involved....

Isn't there a mistake in the labels on that map? Shouldn't that big red part be labeled "Mexico?"
