Non-made in China appliances?

I'm getting ready to buy a panini press so the old lady can hook up my lunches. Looking around Amazon, there are quite a few options; however, amazon conveniently leaves out the country of origin in the product description.

Can anyone direct me towards any made in USA appliances (if they exist)?

I'll also settle for any non-China make as a back-up.

Thanks!

Not sure if they exist in a panini press, but I have taken to buying "vintage" coffeemakers off ebay, which can be Italian. Ah, got to go, my Bialetti Easy Caffe just finished brewing my morning moka....

As far as I know there are only items which have been stickered over with an American brand name. Want guaranteed quality? Buy Japanese, I guess.

There was a yahoo article recently about ten brands still made in America and KitchenAid is one of them.

Sadly, it would be if it was one of Lodge's ceramic coated pans.

Is Vollrath still manufacturing in Sheboygen??

Their prices seem to imply American made....

Vollrath 40795 Double Cast Iron Plate Panini Sandwich Press | Instawares Panini

$773.79

For that price, you better really like panini...

Vollrath makes a smaller one. We have one at the winery but I never noticed it's mfr. stamp. I'll look next time I'm there. Nice piece of iron wherever it's made.

I think it is better to find reviews on an item before purchase. There has been a lot of US made crap or US made shell with foreign parts in it. Remember, GM proudly stuck a lot of "Made in USA" junk on the market.

It is up to the company and their QC department to accept or reject a product made. Of course, if you specify "Make it at the lowest cost possible", that is what you get.

Thanks for the info...elchivito, I'd be interested to know the make of that press you mentioned.

Used/vintage is another option I didn't think of, so I may look around at some of the local 2nd hand stores before I decide.

Obviously a $600 panini press is out of the question, but I don't mind going up to $200 on a good make, hopefully made in the USA.

It bugs me when you buy a product with false labeling...like "assembled in the USA", or when the box says "this package is made in the USA", yet the contents are made in China. What's worse, is they still manage to charge us "made in the USA" prices.

Thanks

Or how about the product being made in the USA but the guts from all over? Kinda why I gave up on "Made in USA". I just go for the reputation and country of origin be damned.
