It doesn't diminish the act, just broadens our understanding that the problems associated with being homeless in the US is complicated, at the very least.

I totally agree. The cop's actions were not diminished at all. It is not his problem.

It's like his brother said in the article. It's the lifestyle he's chosen for himself.
Or is it?

Do you think he has the boots in a safe place or that he sold them for _______. (insert whatever purpose here)

This is why I will never give a single dollar to the homeless. I will certainly give food or a sandwich but never cash.

If I was a stinky sock on one of those homeless feet ... I would most likely tell a story of how those boots were sold for crack or booze, or both. As for food ? Get real. There is more free grub in any decent sized city or town, e.g., over 50,000 + inhabitants. But, one must go through the indignity and experience the horrors of hearing a lecture about Jesus and God and all that good stuff for 20 minutes before getting the vittles. We certainly don't want our homeless to suffer through this.

I think we ought to buy this guy another set of boots....

You're half right. It doesn't deminish the act. However it is just another day in Futility-land.
