Apple Cider Vinegar...Is It Really Good For You?

About 20 years ago my stepmother told me how good ACV was for you.
She gave me a book about all the good things it does. Swore by it.
I never paid any mind to her and I never read it till the other day. Quite interesting.
I tried the treatment for itchy scalp that was in the book.
Wow! After a couple of treatments with the ACV, no more head and shoulders for me. Not needed. I'm cured.
Now I'm wondering if there is something to the other claims in the book.
Apparently there are benefits to drinking it regularly.

Anybody here have any first hand knowledge about ACV use?
Good or bad

Whunter often uses it to clean out radiators.

Ask him.

Tons of anecdotal evidence out there but no science that I know of. I know many who use it for all sorts of stuff. I tried it for gout and allergies over a 6 month period. It had no effect whatsoever.
Having said that, I buy it in bulk to put in my goats' water. They love it and it noticeably increases their water intake and helps keep tanks algae free. Poultry like it too. My water is real hard, so the vinegar sweetens the Ph a little. Helps prevent urinary calculi in my bucks and wethers.

IIRC, years ago someone mentioned that vinegar was a good cure for nail fungus. I don't recall if we were speaking about apple cider vinegar or not. Might have been the Swede or someone from up North country. Not sure.

I "outgrew" dandruff years ago somehow while keeping most of my hair. Hope your problems are cleared up.

The Japanese drink both Cider Vinegar and "kurozu", rice vinegar sweetened with honey.

They also soak their feet in vinegar...never asked why.

I use a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and isopropyl alcohol to combat swimmers ear. Vinegar is a good disinfectant (and great on salads!).

when I was a teenager....

My Dad must have read/owned the same book. He made up a mixture of 50/50 Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey; would shake it in a quart jar to mix it up. It would go into solution.

Then maybe 1 or 2 tablespoons in a small juice jar topped up with water and ice. We drank it all the time --- did it make us any healthier? Maybe. It did seem to cure my "thirst" after a long summer's day of work or extreme basketball practice conditioning.

Love it! keep a bottle of bragg in the pantry and i drink it all the time.

i'm no nutritional scientist so i can't say for sure how it does what it does but i can say for sure that it DOES help with digestion and helps me stay feeling great.

I'd say that its kind of an old timey "cure what ales ya" kinda remedy. I know a few grandads that swear by it and its very popular in the vegetarian/vegan cook book.

A 50/50 mix of apple cider vinegar and Everclear can cure the blues or at least make you not care or even have a sense of touch if you overdo it! Clears out the circulatory system while you're at it. Probably not so good for the liver though.

Yes, Bragg is what I have. The organic type with the "mother". Mixed it 50/50 with raw honey. Couple of tablespoons a day. Not too terrible to drink.
Don't know if it's doing anything yet, except I seem to be peeing more.
Can't imagine mixing with everclear.

I am banging two sticks together to keep the bears away.
I don't see any bears.
I guess it works.

If you are gonna try it, regular store bought is not what you want. It has to be active.

There are bargains out there is you look for them.

Excellent marketing. People attribute miracles to molasses also, another waste product. Vinegar is an old standard. If you buy vinegar anyway it might as well be ACV. I buy white vinegar for cleaning.
