In the Pic the Air Pump is on the bottom; not unlike a Bicycle Air Pump.

The pump is similar to a bicycle tire pump . The butt unscrews from the receiver to fill it. You could have carried extra with you if you had wanted , quite common with English Ball Resevoir guns which had the air stored in a 'ball' .
