Texas weather...

Spent the afternoon in the unheated shop replacing hydraulic lines on my little tractor's loader. It was chilly-high 40s, low 50s so, when I came up to the house, there were enough coals left from last night's fire in the woodstove that I got a little fire going to take the edge off the room.

Now, it is 7.00pm and the outside temp is now up to something like 62 and it is 75 inside because of the fire.

Isn't it supposed to get cooler at night...in the winter?

uh not necessarily down there it isn't. here--there is a difference between the metro and Denton- 15 mile difference.-because of all the concrete /asphalt.

I am at least 40 mi from any potential urban heat island and 3/4mi from any pavement. This is a warm front...

I may have to open the windows.

I'm glad Bride isn't here to give me any grief about starting a fire when it was getting warmer...

Sometimes I wish I were in the Northern States during the Winter. Up there, it gets so cold the Democrats put their hands in their OWN pockets. Of course, they make up for it in the warmer months.

This is #2 and was a non-smokin' redhead for about 15 of the 19 we've been together. Now we call it distinguished gray.

And whointhehell is Willard?

We're catching a hell of a lot of rain over here to your East, R Leo. Local rain gauges show 5"-9" in 24 hrs. There is warning today of flooding in St Landry, Avoyelles, and Iberia Parishes. Every day for the next 10 days show a fair chance of rain & T-storms.

Our turn in Mississippi today. Red Sky in morning sailors take warning.

Our total rain since noon 1/8/13 is 3.75" which doesn't sound like much but it is the first slow, steady rain in about a year. Most have been short traces or torrential downpours that are done and gone in an hour.

This did some real good. Hell, I can already see the difference in my clover.

We also need rain EXTREMELY bad, and this is the first long soaker we've had in quite awhile. We, however, are on the Northern edges of it, and have only eeked out about an inch and a half so far.

Not gonna' send it back though.

About 45 years ago I was in the D/FW area and had a friend in Denton. It would be a sunny day in the Metroplex so I would call (three minutes cost .45 cents!) and they would say to stay home, it was raining like crazy in Denton.

There was even a scientific explanation for it. Something involving warm air from the south and cold air from the north and Denton just managing to be the place they normally came together.
