Car Heater too hot--kills

Mesa County boys left in mom's running SUV died from overheating - The Denver Post

Anyone ever think this was possible? It was a cold night. Vehicle was a Toyota 4 Runner from the pictures I saw. I've never imagine that a car heater could get hot enough to kill children.

I'd imagine that if there were an underlying health condition that it could be possible...

They were only two. Young kids are more subject to heat extremes than adults because, so I've read, they have less body area to radiate heat. Inside a closed vehicle that could be acting like a greenhouse, maybe it is possible.

Bet she wished she had a quickie or a babysitter instead of a long session of sex.

Assume that the children were already dressed warmly, add one car heater running full blast for an hour and a half - I could see this happening. I wonder if CO was a contributing factor?

I doubt it. You'd know if CO poisoning was involved since the skin would be different. IIRC, it would be red or something.

Cherry red fingernail beds is an indicator of CO poisoning.

do we know that this happened? it does seem a little oddly written, "visiting a man" in the article.

She was outside a ski resort, I was betting this was a horrible tragedy based on her going to get tickets or arrange ski school and making sure her kids were nice and warm while she did this.

I would have thought that in the middle of winter the engine would have cooled down enough over 90 minutes of running to change heater output. Im thinking there were other contributing factors. Smothering in swaddling, ect.

what a horrible thing to happen

For 90 mins or more? This sounds odd that it takes so long when she was parked at Powderhorn and meeting a guy nearby. If my wife parked at a ski resort and was meeting somebody nearby that resort for 90+ mins, I'd be suspicious, wouldn't you?

we need more information first. we know nothing about the guy, where she really was, ect. They say she was parked near, near as in 30 miles? From where I am, that would certainly be near, but if I was local, that would have nothing to do with it, so I want to absorb more facts before I assume she was having a booty call with her kids roasting in the car.

ive waited 90 minutes for tickets before, or for some other crowded function at a resort. Its definitely possible.

Booty call or whatever it is, you shouldn't be leaving anything living in a car that long. Sounds about the right time for a booty call though. Like I said, should have made it it a quickie

The subtext in the TV news stories was 'booty call'.

I was in a Caravan that was over 100f in the middle of an early spring gale, so yes you can get a car hot enough to injure/kill.
