I'm so ashamed of myself.

I have always prided myself in being able to fix my printing and sign equipment. And for the first time in 15 years, I have to PAY someone to fix my press for me. arrrrgggg.....

In troubleshooting and repair of various different things over the years I have come to believe what my Grand Dad said that applies perfectly:

"There was never horse couldn't be rode and
never a cowboy that couldn't be throwed."

No matter how good you are, there will be a lunch eater along the way sooner or later.

When I was 18, I could change the plugs on a big-block Chevy in my sleep. Today I open the hood of a twin-turbo Lincoln MKS, look in, then close the hood and quietly slink away...

The Press is fixed, there wasn't one major thing wrong with it, there was about 20 small things wrong with it. The mechanic said that after years of operation, that these small things can get out of timing. Praise God everything works now.

Good deal. Sounds like you had been doing a good job keeping it going for all that time.

Sounds like that horse has now been rode!

There's no shame in that, Robert. With personal stuff, I'll spend too much time fixing and patching and extending use. But on the business side, there are better, more productive ways for me to spend my time. If I can't accomplish a work maintenance-related project in under an hour, I'm calling in a professional. Although I understand it's not quite as easy in a one or two person shop.

My recently retired father, who is very much a hands-on person, would spend hours and hours fixing a machine or trying to troubleshoot an electrical problem to save a couple hundred dollar bill from a tech or the electrician. That's all well and good except it cost us a hell of a lot more per hour to have him doing the job rather than doing his presidential duties.

Hey, not everyone has the tools and the books to troubleshoot and fix a flux capacitor. That's why they are so expensive.

The press is down again, a little $100 part has me shut down again. The press should be up by Friday.
