Wild weather for January...
I'm turning the furnace way down today, opening doors and windows, and letting the winter funk air out early. Mid 60's in January is very odd here.
Boy child and I will be setting up the smoker, and smoking 2 pork picnics today. Going to mix both of them with a good sauce and put them up for sandwiches for when the temps drop again on Monday. I also plan on having boy child and girl child turn some of the compost into the garden spot, and add more to the top. Wife is planning on steam cleaning the carpets. She's getting the spring cleaning itch. I just need to stay out of her way... I hope I get to spend as much time out on the porch as possible this weekend, enjoying the warmth. I might even torture my neighbors by bringing the banjo out with me for some much needed practice.

We're having our "week of winter" down here. Loaded up the wood box and fired up the wood stove. Supposed to drop down to upper 20's and highs only in the low 50's. It'll be back into the 60's by Wednesday. Might have to get a "winter" house further south . These tender old bones can't take this abysmal cold.

I shudder at the thought of the issues a warm winter is going to give us. We had a heck of an issue last year with the bugs. If we don't get a good, hard freeze this winter, summer is going to be horrible.

Yes on average we see a few really cold nights by now up here in eastern Canada. The time for them occuring most years is slipping by.
The sun is getting too high now. We were twenty degrees F higher than normal in my opinion locally instead and still are. Just unusual I hope. Although I do not mind the milder period. Any real form of permanent climate shift this great would have many consequences and issues I suspect. So it is best if it does not continue year over year. The wife and myself had just been discussing this oddity this morning. Specifically what happened to the normal end of December and early January cold snap.

At least we have a full sheet of ice on the lake. Not sure how thick it is yet, but this warm won't help..
Last year the lake never froze over.... had to take the kids to a rink to skate...

This southern boy is loving this northern "winter" so far. I took the 240D out for a spin this morning on some errands and even had the windows cracked.

Enjoy it while it lasts.
The extreme cold in Canada is pushing ever closer and the pattern of warm is going to end relatively soon. I'm afraid February is going to be a killer for cold. Had to finally buy oil............$1459.........
