Morresey brandishes AK-47...

...and exhibits proof that people need to be educated on how to handle firearms.

When watching the video, look how he holds it and where his thumb is placed. The first rule of gun safety is to treat all firearms as if they are loaded...

It seems to me..of all places that guns should be NOT permitted...a government house/place/thing like that should be on that list..

A subcommittee voted Thursday night to kill a bill Morrissey introduced that would have tightened gun controls in the state, The Roanoke Times reported. That bill would have banned the sale of so-called assault rifles and high-capacity magazines.
Someone should introduce a bill to ban that moron from access to any gun. Or public office, for that matter.

And it wasn't even an AK-47. It was a Vepr Rifle. semi auto from the factory, a civilian firearm, never meant for military service. True it is based on the action developed for the AK-47. But it is a sporting rifle. That would be like calling a Ruger mini-14 a M1 Garand. Sure its a similar action, but its was never meant for military service.

I'm so sick and tired of these law makers and media who know nothing about guns telling me how guns need to be governed.

Sadly guns are just one of the many things the government tries to govern yet knows nothing about.
I'm looking at you science related topics..you too internet and technologies!

HOWEVER, this does not mean these things should not be governed/controlled/regulated in someway...

For every one person who is knowledgeable about a topic there are 100 that are not but would try to own/use whatever that topic is in unsafe manners.

I recall something a few weeks back about the head of a science type committee shooting off his mouth revealing the fact that he had no clue at all about whatever it was...

I realize that's pretty generic and true of pretty much 90% of politicians LOL.

I'd like to think that the government has the power to do the necessary research to pass effective laws... Isn't that the point of the Library of Congress, to give these people the resources to not be total airheads. We pay for them to have staffers to help them read and become knowledgeable... but when I see things like this it just makes me wonder what all that money is really going for, cause these people don't seem to know jack.

Your right, its not a problem with gun laws, its a problem with all politicians.

I've often wondered why we dont have more qualified people in certain positions..

Like chairman of the (whatever committe) on something science related... should that not be chaired by someone who has ACTUAL experience and knowledge of hat matter? And perhaps flanked by people who are NOT experienced so they can provide opinions and such?

Why is fiscal policy and economics dictated by people who have no experience in either field?

That would be like me walking into a hospital, putting on a surgeons outfit and going some open heart surgery starting by cutting an arm off.. I've no idea what I'm doing but looks good enough!

Exactly! or if you want to put some random elected official (maybe he was a doctor before going into politics) in charge of lets say the finance committee, maybe there should be a requirement that his staff is nothing but bankers and economists, not the political hacks who helped get him elected.

I'm sure that Morresey guy told his staffers that he wanted to display an AK-47 and they borough him that thing. But it doesn't prove his point if the staffer tells him "we can't get an actual ak47 because they were outlawed by the The National Firearms Act of 1968."

But if your staffed by a bunch of politicos who went strait from college to politics, I'm sure there a bunch of yes-men who say "sure we'll find you an AK-47"

I don't think the founding fathers meant for there to be professional politicians, but alas we have them now.

Or like putting Michelle Bachmann on the intelligence committee.

That's not a gun, that's a rifle.

At least one person, an actor, has been shot to death on a movie set, using a gun that was supposedly not loaded with live ammunition. It is moronic behavior to be wielding any gun or rifle around for purposes of show only, and should be considered illegal, threatening behavior brandishing a firearm - regardless who or where that behavior is being exhibited - especially in the public domain.

The word assault, has nothing to do with any rifle. The word assault has to do with an intent or behavior exhibited by an individual - not the firearm. It is a word used in an effort to control any arguement regarding firearms - usually by the left.

Gun control is not about controlling guns - it is 100% about controlling people. Guns, obviously, cannot be controlled - only people can be controlled. That is the intent by some of the lawmakers - to exercise more control over people. If gun control worked, why was there 500 murders with firearms in Chicago, IL last year? A gun-free zone??

1-Why is his finger on the trigger?
2-why isn't the chamber held open with a zip tie?
3-why is the magazine installed?

Side note, the firearm in question isn't defined as an assault weapon...even in NY or California. Yes, the magazine pictured is illegal in those states.

I didn't see the video, what he was saying, or how he was working with it, but-what you're describing is called 'menacing' I believe, and is a crime on some level. Same reason you can't walk around town with a sword.

Hmm what if that's a fake? Like a prop the guy had a staffer get to LOOK real? I'm by no means defending his actions or anything.
