I guess they will have to change the title of that MOS.

I'm not keen on the idea of sending women to the front lines. I remember a situation where a woman was held hostage and was raped repeatedly. I remember how outraged we as a country were.

When you're dealing with an enemy that has zero respect for women in roles of power, etc, all we are doing is throwing red meat in front of rabid dogs.

This isn't going to be good...

It would be interesting to hear what women think, but recent polling indicates they are few and far between around these parts.

I was listening to them talking about it on NPR today. They seemed about evenly split on the subject. Those that called in that is.

Female US soldiers don't need an enemy to get raped, their fellow male soldiers will do just fine.

The main push for this is female officers. One cannot get up the top of theachine unless one has time on combat arms

Also on NPR they reported that some slots will probably not be filled by ... women. Which slots to be determined later.

I clicked on your link and it failed.

What is the rate of rape in the military as compared to civilian population?

You might have to do your own math, but here's a 2010 DoD study.

http://servicewomen.org/SAPRO%20Reports/DoD_Fiscal_Year_2010_Annual_Report_on_Sexual_Assault_in_the_Military.pdf

I think an estimated 19,000 in one year.

Are you outraged at what happened at Lackland?

Quote:
The Washington hearing comes after nearly 60 current and former personnel, including two men, came forward with what the Air Force considered credible reports that they were sexually abused by their drill sergeants at the base in San Antonio.

Six drill sergeants have been convicted and six more Lackland Military Training Instructors are awaiting court martial in the case. The probe also recently expanded to a recruiting sergeant who was charged with sexually assaulting women who were discussing joining the Air Force.
Red meat and rapid dogs, indeed.

The rate of sexual assaults on American women serving in the military remains intolerably high. While an estimated 17 percent of women in the general population become victims at some point in their lives, a 2006 study of female veterans financed by the Department of Veterans Affairs estimated that between 23 percent and 33 percent of uniformed women had been assaulted. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/09/opinion/sexual-violence-and-the-military.html

Now what's the ratio of men-to-women in the military? (89% male, 11% female).

What's the age distribution in the military vs civilian populations? http://www.slideshare.net/pastinson/us-military-active-duty-demographic-profile-presentation

Could those ratios have anything to do with the differential? http://www.nationmaster.com/country/us/Age_distribution

Sexual assault being analyzed as a 'norm'. Now there's some civilized thinking.

Rape is rape, Female or Male

In the real world, the 3rd world that is, rape is a tool used on all prisoners. In GW1, the Navy Capt that broke down on TV and "confessed" was later found to have been repeatedly raped during interrogation. A soldier is a soldier, male or female, and they know the risks before they take the job.

On the other hand, female soldiers have been found more likely to shoot than males in a situation where a male might think about a hand to hand or butt stock to the head as a defense.

Israeli friends have stated that Sabra women are used as Security guards for this very reason.

Good point. A CIB definitely will acelerate the climb through the paygrades that begin with an O. A CIB, good political skills, good OER's and in most cases West Point, is what it takes to get to the top.
