Have jury duty today...

So, watch out, I might be posting a bunch of useless stuff!

Same here, waiting in the jury room of the Supreme Court building downtown. (though as soon as they find out that I'm an opinionated bastige, they'll likely kick me back onto Centre St. Then again, 99% of NY'ers are opinionated, so maybe they won't )

Last time I had jury duty I was so bored I was hoping theyd call me so I could have something to do. They never did though.

Well that is fun.

I have a feeling I might get booted too. Few friends in law enforcement, and I don't exactly have a "spot-free" record...

My step father is a retired sheriff's deputy, and that still didn't get me booted off of serving on two juries.

It's partly a pain in the neck, but it's a very moving experience and I'm glad I had the privilege to serve and I hope you do, too.

As American citizens, our constitution gives us two duties: to serve in the military and serve on a jury if called.

Fortunately your PUI has prepared us for it.

I'd actually like to sit on a jury to see the system first hand. I've always been released just after lunch.

They called 30 people for a traffic accident lawsuit and took 8 drivers from the front row. Back row and people who had never driven we're excused. I was in back row. Shame, seems like a wasted half day -- almost wish I'd have been called.

Yeah, but it seems like a waste of time if all I do is sit here all day and surf the web...

Yeah, the clerk announced that there were only 2 cases on the calendar for today. Have a feeling I am going to get called back in tomorrow.

Some firefighters and military people on alert also get to sit around. Doesn't mean their jobs aren't useful, even if they're "doing nothing" in the immediate present.

I have always gotten out of it.

But I have been told if you own a business you can get out of it.

Out hear for the last 10 or more years they have been calling People every Year for Jury Duty? That is too much.

What they do here is except for the first day you will be sent Home and have to check if they need you on the Phone.

From what I have seen if you call and have to go to Court it is almost a sure thing you are at least going to be part of the Herd actually going to the Court Room where you may or may not get selected.

They problem with this system is that while it saves the Court Money you will not be able to tell where you work when or how long you might be Gone. Worse if you are a Small Business Owner that needs to be at your Business every day.

They do allow some posponements so you can make arrangements for not being where you need to be. So with posponements you can stretch out your time to longer than 1 year when you have to actually show up.

I have being getting called to Jury Duty since 1980 and have had enough.
Arguing with the Jury when I was on a Jury tore My Stomach up during the Trian and for 2 weeks after the Trial was finished. I don't want to go through that again and have managed to get Myself booted of the Jury when I was actually selected.
