50 Shades of Grey....
Is one helluva twisted book!
Picked it up yesterday AM while waiting for jury duty, and was hooked almost instantly. Finished reading it this morning at 3.30AM! Anyone else here read it? Might try to read the next two of the trilogy this week.

I read tons of material for work, and so books bore me to death. I was big into Tom Clancy novels, but even those fell by the wayside after doing all of the reading I do for work. And about being straight... Well, Hatty has seen how my nights go.... ![]()

Justin ---
Last year, when I was on Match.com, I kept seeing women's profiles that said the last book they read was 50 Shades of Gray. So, naturally, I wanted to know why all the women were reading this book or the trilogy. Since, I didn't want to buy it, I added my name to the wait list at the local library for the e version. I was 4th on the wait the list. I was pretty much resigned to go buy the book.....I mean....if you can keep an ebook for a week, and I'm 4th on the list.....that's like 4 weeks that I'd have to wait for the book. Anyway, on Day 5 of being on the wait list, I get an email saying I can check it out, so I did. Like you, I couldn't set the book down. I guess I should make a confession now --- I often call my new girlfriend "Ana" and she often refers to me as her 50 shades. ![]() ![]() Of course, she read the next 2 faster than I did......she bought them. I borrowed them from her. She told all of her boring friends that they should read the first one and then decide if what they really want is a 50 shades kind of guy. And having a dinner date with her while I have a silk tie in my pocket is so much fun! ![]() Enough said?

The overwhelming popularity of this series demonstrates clearly that millions of women of all ages fantasize about being tied and spanked by a young and abusive and emotionally disturbed billionaire.
Who would have foreseen this? I thought Portnoy's Complaint was much more entertaining. “I am marked like a road map from head to toe with my repressions. You can travel the length and breadth of my body over superhighways of shame and inhibition and fear.” “Doctor, I had never had anybody like her in my life, she was the fulfillment of my most lascivious adolescent dreams– but marry her, can she be serious? You see, for all her preening and perfumes, she has a very low opinion of herself, and simultaneously– and here is the source of much of our trouble-a ridiculously high opinion of me. And simultaneously, a very low opinion of me! She is one confused Monkey, and, I'm afraid, not too very bright.” ― Philip Roth, Portnoy's Complaint |

This reminds me of a toned down version of 'The Story of O'.
And on another level..... About 30 years ago a lady friend of mine got a job in a hardware store. She was sort of a handyman type, enjoyed home improvement, and knew a lot about all types of hardware and building supplies. She knew more about a lot of the stuff in the store than a lot of the old men that usually worked in those types of jobs. She told me that one thing puzzled her and that was a type of soft cotton rope the place sold. It was too weak to use for rope and to big to use for tying packages, but women sure bought a lot of it. One day she asked a lady what she intended to do with all that rope and when the lady told her she was sort of taken aback. So..... This sort of thing has been around for a long time. |

While I have no desire to read it, I did find this review of it quite funny.
Katrina Passick Lumsden (Charlotte, MI)'s review of Fifty Shades of Grey The language is a bit tough...

I read the first book... Every time the main chick said "oh my" I could only think of George Takei. Hence the reasone for not reading the other books. That and the fact that she annoyed the crap out of me.
