A rational presentation with no political hyperbole?! very instructive.

He does reinforce my belief that only well educated ( i.e. indoctrinated), or completely ignorant , people can be liberals. How can any rational person NOT understand the problems of spending way more money than you have?

No, but it makes for a dramatic headline which is the point of the whole exercise. Riles up the peeps.

The president said the impact of the cuts won't immediately be felt, but middle class families will begin to "have their lives disrupted in significant ways."

I hate to tell him but the hardship for the middle class started a few years ago when the War on the Middle class started.

If you listen to his recent speeches, it seems he thinks that 80% of the budget has been sequestered--not merely 2-4%. I bet nearly anyone here on PP could make the cuts w/o the hurt he predicts. Of course, government cuts without pain are anathema to the President. Government is the end all and be all for "the People"., so any cuts, by definition must be painful.
We just don't deserve his exemplary leadership.

Obama this afternoon, in one of his most arrogant appearances to date, said that the people cleaning the Capitol building will have less pay. Afterwards, Stephen Ayers, Architect of the Capitol said that this is totally untrue.

The Emperor just continues to make things up.

He is so convinced that he and only he, knows what's best for the country that he can't recognize that the spending cuts, or more accurately, the cut in the rate of spending GROWTH, is a good thing for the country. He is doing something good for the country, but too full of himself and his jaded ideologies to recognize and take credit for it!

He's quite a brilliant fellow.

His strategy isn't incorrect from a political perspective. If he does the "right thing" and cuts the budget by 10% (as a minimum), he'll probably cause some pain to the economy and the special interest groups will crucify him. Every single DB who gets his funds cut will cry about how terrible the cut will be to their program and how folks will literally be starving in the streets.

In the short term (for the next 20 years), his approval ratings would go down the toilet. He really doesn't want such a legacy as he's not a strong individual who will do the right thing...........consequences be damned.

He's trying to walk a tightrope by maintaining most of the expenses to prevent damage to his legacy and short term damage to the economy if the government does a bit of a layoff (which it clearly needs to do).

Actually......Yes, over the years Woodward has proven himself to be one of those rare conservatives who are Intellectually Honest beyond reproach.

Bernstein was the liberal in the dynamic duo. If you watched the elections a few months ago you would also have seen him speaking on the liberal side of the table.

Actually he is trying to do the right thing, and to get the Rs to do the right thing by making cuts where it is most effective and least destructive to people who are benefitting from the expenditures and to raise the tax revenue in the most effective way for the country without damaging the economy.

The President is being very true to his bedrock belief that America is an evil, oppressive colonialist country that only got wealthy by stealing the wealth of others.
Not my belief, but clearly it is his. He is taking advantage of his position to cause as much hurt to as many people as he can.

Those dreams that you have every night will consume you. Next thing is that you'll be imagining Obama as the Devil Incarnate.

You fail to grasp that he has few options if he wishes to keep his numbers up in the short term. People like receiving money.

I do not believe he has any desire to do the "right thing" which is an across the board spending cut of at least 10%............everybody.

Nobody wants to pay any more taxes............therefore he has an obligation to cut expenses. He refuses to do that for all the reasons known.

He and I do not agree.

You still believe he has a desire to cut spending by 10%?

If so, do you have a shred of support for what you believe?

If he really was willing to cut spending, the GOP would be right on board with him.

He's not.
