The cooking Utensil, digging, and Lock stuff are different but the other stuff is similar to what someone Hiking might take with them.

The main problem about these sort of Kits is that if someone back at the Base needs a safety Pin they are not going to go to the PX and buying some; they will take it from their Kit; the same can happen to the other items.

Oddly they left out the typical Life Boat type Whistle so that you don't have to loose your voice yelling for help and can be heard from a longer distance.
They also left out the Wire Bone type Saw that is in typical survival kits. Neither one of the above items weigh much or take up much space.

The Lock Pick and Handcuff Key should be concealed in their clothing because if they were captured that survival kit is going to be taken from them.

All day long the National Weather & Environmental Department have been issuing a travel warning for snowfall and bad road conditions.

They suggest that anyone who has to travel should make sure they have the following:

Shovel
Blankets or sleeping bag
Extra clothing including hat and gloves
24 hours worth of food
De-Icer
Rock Salt
Flashlight with spare batteries
Road Flares or Reflective Triangles
Empty gas Can
First Aid Kit
Booster cables

I looked like an idiot getting on the bus this evening!

What good is an empty gas can? I guess you could pee in it if you were stuck in a blizzard.

You left out 24 hours of food for the rest of the Passengers on the Bus.

I like to keep at leas one Roll of Toilet Paper in the Trunk; that could end up being handy on the Bus.

You use it to Saw off Limbs; wooden ones.

The high quality ones will also cut through Plastic, Aluminum and to a lesser extent mild Steel.

I have seen the cheap version aggressively nearly cut through a 6 inch Tree Root. I say nearly because the User ran the Saw against a rock and ruined it. the rock chopped off all the Teeth (the cheap ones have a sort of spiral wound flat Wire with teeth on each side; not very sturdy).

The Government believes that a Full can of Gasoline in the Trunk is dangerous.
Whereas a full can of Diesel Fuel can just make a mess.
They expect you to walk to the Sation with your Empty Can/Container fill it and walk back to the Car.

I keep an individually wrapped roll of kitchen-style paper towels in the car.
From the old scout days when the cub scouts needed them.
Plus, when I bring my car to Roy Hunter's place, it inevitably gets used.

Believe it or not Paper Towels are banned from My House. The reason is that My Wife will use like 1/2 a roll of them to Wipe off a wet Kitchen Counter instead of using a Sponge.

I also had to disconnect the gas Burners from the Stove because My Wife would be off watching TV while stuff She was cooking on the Stove Burning.

I replaced the Stove with a Electric Skillet (the highest heat is 450 degrees making it harder to burn stuff in it) and when We need to boil water We use an Electric Rice cooker; every thing else is cooked in the Microwave oven.

I also bought an Electric Convection Oven; it has a timer so it is also harder for Her to burn stuff in it.

Most of the above is survival related.

When I was in the Boyscouts the first Troop I was in was Troop that mostly went Hiking instead of just Camping. I carried a little survival kit I made up that the extent that My limted funds allowed. In fact I have a vague memory that in the Scout Manual there was a list of stuff that included the Safety Pins and the like.
