Buying a Toyota today.

Never thought I'd want to own a Toyota other than the Prius or maybe the RWD Scionbaru. But I found a different model for sale, and the price was right.

(yep, it's a Singer clone made by Toyota in the 60s - $10 f.o.b. Washington Heights, NYC, NY).

I love seeing these old sewing machines. I bought an old treadle powered Singer for my wife a few years ago, that she loves to use on occasion. I had to replace a few parts, but got it working again.

I've got my mother's old Singer electric inside a convertible table at the end of the hall being used as a printer stand.

The engineering that went into designing and making those older machines still amazes me today.

Nice machine. I have a Singer industrial model with an oil sump. It'd sew right thru your finger if you weren't paying attention.

Heck, a Benz sewing machine would have too complicated a threading mechanism, and would break down often. But it would survive if knocked off the sewing table.......

I have my grandmother's 1904 White treadle machine, still works great, although nobody left knows how to use it. I keep it oiled just in case. I also have a 40's vintage "portable" electric model in a suitcase sort of arrangement with a foot pedal. It was my mother's, although she wasn't the seamstress my grandmother was. There's also a 60s (I think) Singer electric that belonged to my aunt here, we use it for an end table.
