This cop is a hero!

'You've got to be kidding me': Maryland woman gets a ticket for driving 63 mph in a 65 zone - U.S. News

Don't let the title fool you: she's a left-lane bandit and was cited for impeding traffic.

No surprise she's fighting the ticket...sad that the idiots at AAA are on her side.

Texas passed a law like this a few years ago. So did Oklahoma. Enforcement has been very lax, but then it is because the Cops use a little common sense when enforcing it.

This common sense comes from the realization that in some cases this does no harm. This is really true in Oklahoma where the population is sparse.

But I have seen people pulled over for this. People who are backing up traffic and people who are impeding the progress of emergency vehicles.

In Texas they even have road signs informing slower drivers to stay right so no one can say they were not made aware of the requirement.

This whole thing is what happens way to often. The problem was not that she was going 63 mph, but that she was in the left lane. To me, driving in the left lane but not passing is just plain RUDE and illegal and dangerous. The high winds has nothing to do with this. There are people that will be in the left lane and ride beside a big truck for miles and miles. If the truck had to make an emergency maneuver and needed to move over, then the truck is at fault. It should be a law for anyone wanting to drive in this country must first drive 1000 miles on a German autobahn. If they survive then they can drive here. Well that wouldn't be fair to the Germans who know how to drive. Another thing, we hear quite often about road rage and how people get beat up or shot. How many times have you heard what caused the road rage? The news media always leaves that out.
Sorry for the rant but I am sick of idiots being allowed to drive.

Paul

A friend of mine was travelling 48 on the highway and he got pulled over. He was told to go faster or stay on the access road. I agree. No ticket issued

Of course, the unspoken irony in this event is about the 12,000+ people whose commute was further extended as they slowed down to gawk at the person who was pulled over.

Good. I've had people switch in front of me for no apparent reason, when they're going 15-20 slower than the speed limit. Good to know my brakes are up to spec.

I had the pleasure of following someone who was going 47 (in a 65) the other day. No apparent reason, just plodding along.

I don't understand why AAA is rising to this womans defense. It just makes no sense. Left lane is the passing lane, always has been. You pass, you pull over into the travel lane and leave the passing lane open for passing.

There seems to be this whole subculture of people who don't know that, maybe the AAA spokesman is one of them. His argument makes sense, but only if he assumes that people come up behind a slow car in the passing lane, and simply slow down and plod along behind them.
Its pretty clear that the first thing that happens is things get dangerous. After a short while, its clear the person won't move, so people start taking chances to get around the SOB. Admitting reality and acting for public safety should be in the AAA's interest.

Mmm must have been satisfying for the people trying to use the left lane properly to see her get pulled over.

That being said, I absolutely hate when people use the far right lane (on a three lane road) to pass people in the center lane, ESPECIALLY when the left lane is completely empty.

THIS.

Holy crap is this annoying. I was on route 77 today near Cleveland...It was two lane, just after the turnpike..Traffic slowed to stop-n-go...Why you ask? There was a van pulled over on the shoulder with some lights blinking..What was he doing?! Just looking in a trunk of a car in front of him also pulled off to the side.

So there was no impediment to traffic...just a guy on the side looking for stuff in a trunk.

and when those six 80,000 pound semis drafting each other pass in the left lane while traveling damn near 90 MPH, NOT A COP IN SIGHT! And you best not get in their way unless you want to become recycled metal.
