The article appears to be another attempt to whip up a melange of paranoia and hysteria!

From the article:

The reality is that Obama will not get all of the gun control measures he wants through Congress, and they wouldn’t be enough for him anyway. He wants a totally disarmed America so there will be no resistance to his plans to rob us of our nation. That means we have to ask who will be next. If you are receiving a Social Security check will you get one of these letters? Will the government declare that you are incompetent because of your age and therefore banned from firearm ownership. It certainly fits in with the philosophy and plans of the Obama administration. It is also certain that our military veterans don’t deserve this and neither do any other Americans.

How would such a prohibition be enforced if the determination of incompetency isn't the product of a legally-proscribed process? Obama's gonna get your guns again? More alarmist BS from a bunch of old farts who need a more productive hobby.

Sounds like a well-sourced and cited statement.

If there is any truth to it, it's most likely related to vets who suffer from PTSD.

I'd just as soon know those diagnosed with PTSD didn't have guns. "Heros" or not.

We had a young man who came back from Afganistan here a few months back that went out about thee nights after he came back, got drunk and into an altercation and fired three shots into the ground. So he was arrested and charged and so forth. Still pending I think.

Heavily armed, emotionally unstable....a bad combination.

hero or not.

We are not doing enough for our vets when they have problems other than physical.

I know ww2 and viet nam vets and feeling insecure without a gun, after being in heavy fighting is pretty common and understandible.....but can cause problems.

That sounds like it has nothing to do with vets. That's what happens at the bars just over the River in Oklahoma every Friday and Saturday night.

I'm a PTSD veteran, and I assert my 2nd Amendment privilege.

It might be beneficial to to a little RTFM about PTSD. I'm a veteran of the first Gulf War, and the son of a Viet Nam veteran. PTSD doesn't mean you're postal, or not productive, or even unstable. It means I like to have my back to the wall and my face to the door when I'm in public. It means that I don't sleep much during the anniversary time of the ground war. It means that I've crafted my career so I work from home most of the time.

The hair still stands up on the back of my neck when the National Colors are presented at any event. I just don't go to as many events, because there are usually too many people.

Many of these kids just did 2 or 3 or even 4 tours between Iraq and Afghanistan. It takes a few years for things to settle down when you come out of that situation.

PTSD doesn't mean we're freaks who should be disarmed or discriminated against.

Heh, also...how did King Leonidas respond to the Persian Army's demand that they drop their weapons and surrender? Molon Labe? lol

I don't think we can conclude one way or another if it had anything to do with his service.

I generally think bringing a gun to a bar is a bad idea, especially so if you will be drinking.

As someone who, admittedly, does not know much about PTSD or things related to is..do you find that it manifests itself similarly in people or is/can it be (radically?) different?

I think my story has plenty to do with vets.

Yours has to do with idiots.

a vet suffering from ptsd (most assuredly not an idiot...well, still could be I suppose) should be decompressed for a while then sent home....perhaps a desk job somewhere with a lot of stress relieving activies availble.

Currently the military medical system tries to ignore PTDS and sends them home fresh from the battlefield no matter what.

I think that one problem is the typical beauracratic way of dealing with a problem. It is just too easy for them to lump everyone suffering from PTSD into the same category and treat them all the same. It is stupid and unfair, but the beauracratic way.
