Surprise surprise...

Relatives described Tamerlan Tsarnaev, an ethnic Chechen, as having become a more devout Muslim in the last two years or so. An aunt, Maret Tsarnaeva, told reporters Friday that he had recently started praying five time a day.

Chechnya is a predominantly Muslim region of Russia; Tsarnaev spent six months in Russia beginning in January 2012, during which a relative told ABC News an uncles kicked him out of the house for having "increasingly extremist" views.

Of course, extremism is in the eye of the beholder. For example, if you were in my house, just being you, I would have shown you the door a long time ago, and I'm not even your uncle...

^^^^^^^^^^^^

...and so I guess it's a surprise to all of you that an otherwise non-extreme Muslim became extreme and decided to become a terrorist? Why is that a surprise? Can you focus on that instead of the messenger? Or do you all feel you must slay the messenger by hurling insults so that the issue is not spoken of? (do you know who else you have in company throughout history by doing this?) Can you debate the issue at all?

I think what PC is suggesting is that mental problems know no boundary, religious or otherwise.

I think PC can speak for himself just fine- don't you?

... but now that you assert that- why do you think Muslims have the propensity to develop "mental problems" which involve terrorism on such a wider scale than other religions? Or is it your contention that religion had nothing to do with this act?

I am NOT saying that anyone responding to this thread are ignoring the elephant in the room, but there certainly are plenty of people in this country who refuse to acknowledge the possibility that political correctness is getting in the way of admitting to a possible source of the threat.

You haven't framed an issue to debate, which makes discussion of the issue a bit tricky.

My Grandma went to church every day, and always kept a rosary nearby. IIRC, the biggest explosion she ever created was when a souffle went awry in her oven. Perhaps if she prayed less, that souffle would never have detonated.
