I get to go to Bangalore...

Anyone been there (somewhat recently)?

Any good places to grab a beer or normal food?

Yeah, not planning to eat anything offered by the street vendors...

Seriously, a lot of people get terribly ill from whatever bugs are in the foreign food and water they ingest. Doesn't bother the locals. Bottled water and beer for me.
All that crappy food that you don't eat here like prepackaged foods with lots of preservatives, sausages, and foods served very hot will be your best bet.

Take a lot of Pepto and antibiotics with you. You'll need a bunch of shots before leaving.

For me, sometimes it is only immodium that works.

I've traveled internationally extensively and tried to avoid tap water and meals in street locations, but it's sometimes impossible not to slip up.

I've even put a bottle of water next to the bathroom sink to rinse my mouth off after brushing my teeth, and then stupidly washed off my toothbrush in the sink with tap water.

According to some studies, probiotics can prevent Montezuma from revenging himself. (Basically, if the gut is pre-colonized by "good" bacteria, it keeps the bad ones from taking hold.) They're pretty harmless, so worth trying.

prep yourself by visiting a few indian resturants in your neck of woods and asking them about the city. You will get first hand information.

In India, if you open it or peel it yourself, you are usually OK.

Everything else puts you at risk. Plan for it. I like Septra.

Ice cubes, salad, etc., all no-no's.

Family friend has been at John Muir and UCSF since just after Thanksgiving with pancreas problems after visiting Bangalore. Came home with a bug after eating out away from the hotel for the first time. Has been there numerous times. Treatment evolved to other issues. She may not make it.

Like Mexico, when the hotel tells you they "treat" all their water, assume its broke. Usually is.
