I totally agree that this kind of ignorant self righteous behaviour is bang out of order - but I don't think that fighting fire with fire will help them to learn a lesson. At the very least you'd have to explain why you were gluing valve stems in their tyres etc etc - you can't expect people to understand it otherwise. And even if they did - I don't think they'd change.

Although this might seem a tad extreme I reckon it would be more effective to commit mass genocide and not only bury them in big pits of fire but their whole families as well, on the understanding that it is quite likely that as they are so rude that their families will also be the same way. Please note I say that this would probably be more effective - this isn't in any way meant to be encouragement! To help others from making the same mistake you'd also have to communicate to everyone why those Miata owners and their families ended up in a pit of fire...

...kind of like the bloke with the missing hand, or corpse hanging from the city gates...

There was a time when people would have at least felt a bit awkward being so self righteous and obtuse but that was a long time ago when people had manners. Since the baby boomers decided to do away with common decency and replace it with selfishness the "because I'm worth it" culture has been like a fat kid in a sweet shop.

Non car related don't even get me started on it. I'm really getting sick of dealing with inconsiderate people in the city lately on and off the roads.

How bad is it where you are? Can you go shopping in a supermarket without people purposefully pushing trollies into your ankles? Does anyone ever hold a door open for you where you are? Would someone wait for you to move out of the way even though it is "their right of way"? Have you ever seen four vehicles at a cross roads front bumper to front bumper with a cyclist trying to pedal his way through the middle before?

[RANT]

Went to the fair this weekend. Got to the arena to watch the sheep dog demo oh 30 mins early and secured a spot up front. When the demo started, some woman came up behind me and asked me to move so her kids could take my place because they're short and I'm tall and can't see. I took a half step to the left as a courtesy. 2 minutes later, another woman comes up and says "Can you sit down we can't see past you you're blocking the show." I got p*ssed and left. I should have told them both to go @!$##@%^, if they wanted a good spot they should have showed up sooner etc. etc.

I'm 6'2" and 300# if they bounce a cart off my ankles on purpose it won't end well. No trouble there

Walking around before that, no one moves over in a narrow walk-if you don't get out of their way they bump into you and look shocked you were there. At work however this isn't a problem-the people in manufacturing/ clean rooms are all courteous. It's the uneducated public that ticks me off.

Bikes or cycles filtering through traffic don't bother me, I ride and understand. As long as they're not holding up traffic they can zip by my car at 3" any day all day.

Traffic here is insane-I can't wait to move out of the city. Don't even get me started on that one, I'm looking forward to my 150dB horn installation.

Are you serious with that?

The Netherlands has deteriorated to a level that is worse than the US???????

This one is a beauty in NYC. Every single woman who's on the sidewalk goes by the rule in their head that they have the right of way when they encounter a man. Doesn't matter if they are on the wrong side.........yapping on their phone........stopping and chatting..........they are going to hit you if you don't get out of their way........pronto.

So, the past weekend, I'm walking about 3/4 mile with about 80 lb..........40 in each hand. NFW I can easily manipulate myself to avoid them. So, it's one crash after the next when they run into the suitcase or the shopping bag. The suitcase was excellent...........hard sided American Tourister of 25 years ago. The shopping bag..........strong plastic, but loaded with bottles............not so good.

I suppose you could argue that the funeral is not as egregious as the random desires of a bunch of Harley drivers, but the result is the same. They desired to remain in a pack, and they chose to inconvenience others to accomplish it.

If you really want to talk egregious.............when the President comes to any town, all roads for his motorcade are closed at least 45 minutes before his arrival and they remain closed until he passes...........and there is not a GD thing you can do about it. It seriously ruins your entire day as there is usually no alternative.
I have no problem with a police assisted funeral procession....nor the president coming to town.

Interesting.

The delay to you is the same, whether it's sanctioned or not.

Why would a sanctioned delay be acceptable when an ad-hoc delay is not?

One has a legal basis. Plus I have respect for the grieving parties and the president. A bunch of Harleyheads taking the roads over without proper lights and so forth, with me risking being rear ended on a road with a 55 mph speed limit....not so much.

In comparison with Holland I find most of the US to be a very friendly place. I have had troubles with airports in the US - in particular Atlanta, Boston and JFK where they seem to employ the stoopidest people in the country to deal with the passengers - and sure some parts of the US look pretty dodgy as in you could most certainly loose your innocence (and probably more) but you don't get the feeling that you need to scramble to the top of the pile of bodies before the gas gets you like you do here.

Traveling in rush hour on Dutch trains is particularly enlightening. There's none of this women and children first crap here! It's elbows a go go - I'm pretending not to see you - I'm not moving my bag from the seat - disabled people should take a taxi - it's your fault you're pregnant you silly cow - don't get old then dick head...

...I'm the most important person on this planet - MOVE IT!!!!!!

If crowds or groups of people can not behave with out any measure of respect for each other then society is on its arse.

At least you do not encounter them on a regular basis.

Here on Sundays there is always a group of Koreans going to their local church and they all hog the left lane and left-turning lane past one bridge and two unlit (no stop light) intersections. The more clever ones try to beat the line and stay on the second or third lane and then squeeze into the line as the left turn lane gets closer.

So much for spirituality, they forget to consider everybody else on the road.

The majority of folks are decent, friendly and respectful.

The others stand out though and show up in the media more often so it often looks like we are living in anarchy.

Don't confuse decent, friendly or respectful with ambivalence. Some people have just given up and behave in a placid manner.

I think that most peoples' reactions to the phrase "forgive me father for I have sinned" is one of horror and argumentative resentment - Usually it is "what have I done? I haven't sinned - I don't need forgiveness"...

...they're missing the point - they're considering sin in a mass murdering Hollywood film context not as an integral element of human behaviour. With self awareness comes great responsibility.

To me it seems as though the majority of society is not self reflecting, There is little humility. I think that this means that on the whole "we" are not alright.
