Optical cable question

Does the length of the cable anything to do with its efficiency? I have a 50ft cable and a 6ft cable and the red color output on the 6 ft cable is much brighter then the 50ft cable.

I think the signal is digital, so long as it gets some light it should work.

Length does make a difference, but not usually a big difference between a 6ft and 50 ft. Only true way to tell is with the proper test equipment. I hope your not staring into the end of a fiber that is actually terminated. Very dangerous for the eyes.also are these identical fibers other than length? Single mode vs multimode can make the difference.

Are you talking about fiber optic cable or something else because fiber can have runs of a least a few km's .I think that's the max distance for a regular run.

Thanks for the info.

We have Single Mode fiber runs that go over 58k feet, and then meet 1x16 splitters. Amazing what laser light can do. :)
