Funny thing happened yesterday

I got a call from a fellow who sounded Asian-like possibly, a very difficult accent and bad connection. He wanted to rent my office space downstairs. Said he was out front, so I said I'd come right down. so I go down and there is nobody around....so I go in the space and do a little housecleaning for about fifteen minutes then call him back.....he says he is on North fourth street (correct) but cannot find the address....what?

So we call back and forth about five times, finally I asked him if he was in WEST Lafayette and there is a pause....no.....he says something unintelligable.....then I say are you in a different town? Finally he says he is in Baton Rouge....I think.....so I laugh and say goodby.

Funny.

He got his states mixed up. It would only be one letter difference in the abbreviation:

LaFayette, LA
LaFayette, IA

So, how does that story explain how he could have called a cell phone in Indiana? Doesn't make sense if he was calling about a business in Lafayette, LA. Another hole in the story - now the guy is in "Baton Rouge," LA.? BR is 50 miles from Lafayette. FWIW, if your building were in Lafayette, LA., they'd probably be fully occupied. Lafayette, LA, and much of So. Louisiana has been a business bonanza for several decades running, because of the oil and gas industry. Lafayette even has an area of commerce by the name of; Oil Center. Terrific place to do business, but OMG does it get hot and humid there in the Summer!

cell phone numbers are more an indication of where you first got the plan, than where you currently are. Since the plan remains the same for most carriers in various regions, people just don't change the number.

For example, I spent 5 years in the midwest with a RI number, never bothered changing it since id then have to notify everyone of the new number.

Secondly, people are pretty unobservant with those quick craigslist search engines. Ive had several calls on a work van i sold from guys 150+ miles away who didn't bother to really comprehend the location in the ad.

Possibly this guy printed out a bunch of available office spaces from a quick search and made this blunder.

I got the printout part of it, re; many cities different states.

Still doesn't explain why he first said "he was on the sidewalk in front of the building," in Lafayette, then later, says he's in "Baton Rouge."
Doesn't add up...... Lafayette,LA is 50 miles from Baton Rouge.

So, was this guy doing a craigslist hawking or scamming of some sort?

That's funny. I used to mix the Pacific Palisades and Palos Verdes when I just moved to LA: both on PCH at the coast and very nice neighborhoods. Drove to Pacific Palisades with a cube truck full of gear for a photo shoot, driving back and forth on PCH finally calling the producer that I couldn't find te location. When I told him I was at Sunset and PCH it became quiet on the other side of the line...continued by a big yell: "YOU ARE ON THE WONG SIDE OF TOWN, IDIOT!!!". I made it cross town in less than 30 minutes, what shocked him again.
