I like this kid.

Duncanville used to be so rural that in the 60's it was called 'Donkeyville' even by the folks that lived there.

Today you can see traces of this rural landscape, but you really have to know where to look.

I remember an incident like this when I was in High School.

The Teacher was a Marine Vet and he just asked the guy to step outside so they could talk about this off the school grounds. So they did.

And all they did was talk. And after that everything was cool.

The student went on to be a Dentist. I still see him from time to time, and while he has never discussed what he and Mr. Brown talked about he has said it was some of the most important advice he has ever received.

I dunno - it's easy to blame others and dump on them. The guy had a lot of self-righteous anger.

What a stupid little ****.

I like it. Too many teachers sit on their ass now days.

cmac2012 05-12-2013 03:56 AM

That may well be true but we don't know the back story. Could be the kid is as arrogant as the day is long and hard to reach with anything. The way he said, 'and I'll teach you more later' or the like as he left was a bit off-putting.

Hammed it up when he saw the camera.

Stop press!

Interview with Jeff Bliss, the High School student who spoke out of his heart - YouTube

{EDIT - stupid title - "spoke out of his heart" what dumbo wrote that?}

I don't know how it works in the US but in England and in Holland the work schedule for the teachers seems to be pretty strict; they have a set amount of work that needs to be shoved under the pupils' noses. It seems that here at least teachers aren't given much freedom to actually teach. They are expected to tow the party line and do what their governing bodies dictate. This is a down side of a results driven system - you are only taught to pass exams you are not necessarily taught to understand.

Pretty much the same here. However that is all irrelevant in this case I suspect. Just an opinionated little brat that will likely wind up in the gutter some time in its life.

The back story, as MSN reported, is that the kid is actually an 18 year old Sophmore that dropped out of school a few years ago, and then returned in hopes of having a HS Diploma instead of a GED. His mother is a teacher in another school in the area, and apparently has had her hands full raising a hellraiser.

At least his hell raising is positive instead of destructive.

I have always thought it would be interesting to remove the Xerox machines from a school for a semester or so.
