Torn rotator cuff

So I did something to my left shoulder a few weeks ago. I've been popping alieve and hoping by taking it easy on it it will heal. It got feeling better and a few days ago I did something which really ripped it again so I went to the doc yesterday. He believes it to be the torn rotator cuff. I will be seeing an orthopedic doc Monday and getting an MRI.

ouch... also get a second opinion. Orthos tend to be cut happy.

Best of luck with it Tom! I hope you can get it taken care of quickly and comfortably.

I guess that 100MPH fast ball that you threw as a kid, is catching up with you.

Time to take it easy Tom!!!
Best find yourself an ortho that specializes in shoulders. I had my right shoulder operated on about 2 1/2 years ago.
I hope that you have not damaged your main tendon like I did.
Regular ortho's dont have the understanding of the shoulder joint needed.
They will probably start with a series of steroid injections into the joint. When that doesnt work, they get serious.
Some repairs can be done by keyhole work. Normally you end up with a scare about 3-4" long across the top of your shoulder.
An inflamed burser can also be the problem. No op can help that.
Lots of heat ~ heat bag, will help.
Dont try & lift anything heavy. Limit your self to under 2lb with that arm until they know what is wrong.

picking straight up causes no grief, raising the upper arm up like for combing hair causes real pain.

I may not be able to race this weekend!

Have you tried to put some thing in your back pocket? ~ dont try !!
May be unpleasant to try & roll your shoulder back or pull down the seat belt. There will be certain movements that are causing movement over the inflamed spot.
You would be very foolish to try & drive anything without power steering.
Often when it gets injured some of the fluid leaks out of the joint & forms small ganglions. They are a tell tail sign of rotator cuff damage. They are normally only removed if they are doing other surgical work or if they are putting pressure on a nerve.
If you continue to aggravate it, you will find it to be more painful than a knee or a hip.
