Anyone have experience with Donzi's?

Found one for sale about 2 hours from me, and it is a pretty tempting deal!

Has a 502 that supposedly runs like a top!

They are a very fast boat. Outside of that I don't know much about them. I'm more into boats that have a practical side, i.e. fishing or wakeboard/ski boats. With the current price of gasoline, boating has become one very expensive hobby. If you get a Donzi, best to have very high limits on your gas credit cards, you will easily max them out the first weekend.....

Back in high school I had friend's with them. Very, very wealthy folks, who sneezed at the upkeep. We'd go out and cruise around on Lake Minnetonka. Girls and beer! Not for fishing or water skiing. We'd use the Ski Natique's for the water skiing.

Save your pennies...

You complain about some water scooters and now you want a boat with a big engine in it. It's going to be the cheapest watercraft to operate.....not

Well built and fast, but not real practical. Can't fish, ski, etc,it is a limited utility sports car except a boat. Sit in the seats and go fast. Expensive.

Expensive, like aircraft expensive, and planes are cooler than boats, IMO. For Donzi money you could pick up a good used Cessna. I also saw a Fokker triplane replica in flying condition for only fifty grand. In Red Baron colors. http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/1649876.html

We had a late 70's Donzi Sweet 16 as a lake boat in Maine when I was a kid (through my mid-teens) with a 305. It wasn't blistering with the small block but it was a fun play/ski boat that was relatively economical, handled the chop well when the wind picked up and sounded good at WOT. It would handle a larger than average single skier with 2 people in the boat just fine. I'd guess 50's mph without a functioning speedo. Our reference was my uncle's 440 powered '67 Stevens Dragboat that would blow by us at about 100 (unless the waves picked up and that flat bottom kept him in the 30's ).

the labor of pushing a canoe through the water with a paddle is unlikely to make the panties drop from the bimbos who are swayed by possession of such a boat like a Donzi, which after all, are the target audience.

no doubt the vision here is rocketing over the waves, multiple bikini clad girls sun bathing, no tan lines, no inhibitions, and a dim glow in their eyes as they equate possession of toys as a premise for surrendering their virtue.

What is it they call doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?
