I get to see two rare rifles next week...
My uncle's father-in-law passed away recently, at the age of 98. The man was an avid gun collector and sportsman throughout his life, and amassed a collection of over 80 different pistols, shotguns and rifles.
My Aunt and Uncle have already had them appraised, and are allowing me to come in to look at them and hone my appraisal skills. I'll appraise them, then compare them against the appraisal that was done two weeks ago. I hope my numbers are close. The two I'm most interested in are the Colt Lightning Carbines. One is a medium frame .44-40, and the other is a large frame .50-95 Express. The large frame is the rarest of the Lightnings, with less than 6,500 made over 7 years of production, from 1887-1894. The medium frame had a 20 year run, from 1884-1904. Needless to say, I'm excited about getting to see these firearms. I was told that these will be sold at auction later this year.
