New AR build...

I finally built out one of my lowers that I managed to get before the fascists outlawed them.

So in honor of them, I bought a Magpul trigger guard which is the theme of this build:

I was going for a rifle that's a SHTF gun, something I can beat to death, and a gun I can do carbine courses that have high round counts with.
Specs:

Stag lower and LPK.
BCM mid length upper with a 12in Danial Defense rail.
BCM bolt carrier group.
BCM Gunfighter charging handle Mod 4
BCM 16" BFH Mid Length Upper Receiver Group with Daniel Defense RIS II
Magpul CTR stock and MOE+ grip all in flat dark earth.
ARMs flip up BIUS.
Geissele SSA trigger
Magpul MS3 sling plus forward sling mount and ASAP ring.
EOTech 552
PWS FSC 556 muzzle break

Total cost around $2,900ish.

Nice AR looking forward to shooting it, and saving up for my big $$$ LaRue 20in DMR build with a piece of glass on top that will cost more than my first car did!

Sounds like a good combination of parts.

Nothing wrong with AK, for their intended purpose. Which is to spray bullets around like a garden hose.

But I'm like you. A bolt guy myself.

Hell that's a lot of money for a toy. Hope it meets your expectations. Some pics of the process or completed project would be nice.

Yowza! I've been thinking of picking up one of the .22 LR M4 clones for cheap practice. It does sound like you're building a nice one.

100 round mags suck, in the real world they jam and are just toys.

I'd love to build a good bolt gun, but around here I'm limited to my 60 yard range...so it's like buying a Ferrari and never taking it out of first. If I had a 1k yard range to shoot at, I'd buy a Sako TRG42 in a second.

Meh, the stock military issue M4 is built to a price point. The army does use good optics but other than that...heck they even banned Pmags because the contractors that sell them crappy aluminum mags got jealous. If the military could afford it they would give every solider a $2k AR.

AK's are hit and miss. A junk AK built out of a parts kit is just that, junk. A Krebs or Arsenal...well those are good rifles. They will shoot just as accurate as an off the shelf M4 which is about 4 MOA.

My AR should be in the 1.5ish MOA range for example. The LaRue will be about .5 MOA.

Meh you only go around once, looks a lot like this. I'll take a picture of it at the range this weekend when I pop its cherry.

Anthing in the 7-9 pound weight is about right for me. My .30/06 (98K Mauser) weighs in at about 7, IIRC. With a small bullet (arounf 130 gr) it's a sweet rifle. Firing 180 gr or greater it is the Punisher on your shoulder. I've been thinking about one of those EOTECH's because I don't shoot long range any more. They sure give a great sight picture, really fast.
