Paint Sprayer Question

I've always used brush and roller to paint. My wife has been wanting me to buy a sprayer. My experience in the past was with a Wagner Powersprayer, and I wasn't impressed.

Well, today sheand my daughter went out to some estate sales, and she found this, used, for $10. It's a Paint Zoom HVLP sprayer. I did a little digging, and see that it goes for around $99 at Home Depot, but this one came with 4 additional cups.

Anyone have experience with this?

Looks like a giant airbrush. I would buy a used commercial airless sprayer with the correct tips.

I painted a truck with a Wagner when I was young and I can still hear that infernal buzzing.

She wants it to paint the stairwells and the old clapboard siding inside the covered back porch...both areas that are real pains.

1st one...hell no

2nd one...maybe

Bear in mind that I'm judging by price...I'm a cheapskate.

man i think i would throw that thing in the trash. i have yet to buy a paint sprayer because i dont currently have the $ to buy the $500 unit. ive used one of the graco units before. very nice! biggest thing i can say is, clean it very good when done. when you think its clean, double check it. i did side work for a guy that owned about 20 of them. every time one quit due to not being cleaned properly on a friday, he bought a new one. i spent weeks going through all of them with acetone.

I have a airless Wagner that you carry on your Back. I only ever used it to Spray Primer on the Exterior Stucco of My House. I still had to go over places with a brush as the Spray does not lay a heavy coat that gets into cracks and indentations easliy.

The Primer appeared to be too thick to spray well even when thinned a little. I have not used it since then.
For spraying you sometimes need to mask off stuff and that is extra work and then there is the mentioned cleaning of the Sprayer.

When I did the interior I used a Roller.

For other stuff I use a Brush.

Of the above choices I think using a Brush is the most relaxing (except on Ceilings) to use. While You are brushing You can kick back and day dream a little.

Well, the wife couldn't wait to try it, and had me thin the paint for her to try...not bad for a $10 estate sale find. I handled the corners and cracks real well. Since she's covering dark green paint with an eggshell shade of white, a second coat will be needed...using it for the first time, she left some areas before it was completely covered.

I was rather impressed with the control on the pressure and amount of paint that comes out.
