Just toasted my computer.

I put the mother/logic board in my kiln for 8 minutes at 375F. I did that twice in a row while cooling in between. I am using the computer now. I hope it lasts for a while. I will be backing up everything now.
The logic board had some damage I don't know how . I vaguely remember something splashing on it when I picked up the kid.
Its an Apple 2008 model macbook pro. I got the idea off google/youtube. I am stoked to be back on. I know its not likely to last. I'm prepared for that . I guess

i would have just stuck it in the oven on warm for an hour or so. you got it hot enough to melt all the solder joints

Yes that was the idea. The logic boards on these pieces are problematic. The computer is working better now for sure. It is not struggling with the fans and such. The removal was surprisingly easy. I am no computer guru. I happy, though, not to need a new computer.

The melting point for lead free solder is about 500F, the actual solder temp is much higher.

Solderbaths (used to solder these boards) work at 1100F.
It is possible that heating and cooling may (temporarely) rerstore the contact in a cracked solder point.

Even if the mobo goes, you're unlikely to lose the data on your hard drive. Backups are still good, but don't lose too much sleep about data loss.

Yes, there's likely a deal in the future on a 2008 Macbook Pro . . . just ignore the bisque paint.
