"clutch" as an adjective
the other day in conversation with an adult male in his mid 30s the phrase, "that would be clutch if we did that" was used.
I couldn't quite believe I heard him correctly, and after I was done laughing, he proceeds to demonstrate that there is in fact a definition in the dictionary of American slang that shows the word "clutch" used in the same place as words like "key", or "important" to those hip enough to be in the know.
I also spoke with another friend who has heard it in use and said it was a west coast thing to describe things as clutch, he had heard it growing up out there. I have never heard anyone else use that word in that way before, I was curious if anyone else had and if we were to be subjected to the word "clutch" in place of words like essential.
To me the word is a noun or verb, a component related to power transfer, a womans handbag, or the action of grabbing something tightly.
