I voted for him.

Or as a friend said, "I wasted my vote on Gary Johnson, who did you waste your vote on?"

I hope not. Libertarianism sounds fine until you get to foreign affairs, then its hopeless.

"L"ibertarian, not so much. "l"ibertarian, I hope so. The two major parties have done a sufficient job of mucking things up, let someone else in on the fun.

I voted Gary Johnson last election and will continue to as long as he's a candidate. Unless, as elchivito said, he starts whoring himself out to the Republican party base. I don't see that happening, though.

On a local level, no problemo.

Not sure there is a chance, but I do believe that it would be a good thing from the standpoint of trying to bust up this useless waste of sperm 2 party day care that whose only interested in their own self-aggrandizement.

I'm still chucklin' over the "breather from political season" statement. Has anyone been following the Rand Paul v Chris Christie exchange?

I beg to differ. What is so outstanding about the foreign policy results of the two "Big Government" parties? What do we have to show for it?

G-d forbid we keep our military thugs and parasites out of countries that don't want us, and pull support to the biggest gangster state in the Middle East ... hint, it's name starts with an "I" and doesn't have four letters. Fascism was bad enough without having similar atrocities committed by people who claim to represent me, and MY country of birth supporting those people.

As to Middle Eastern oil: we're a net producer of energy at this point. Between natural gas, renewables, nuclear, domestic oil, etc, we can survive if we put export and price controls. Let the Euros and slopes fight over it if they so desire.

Depends, are you asking about the short or long term?

To answer Jim's question, NO. I can't imagine it happening. Even if it were to happen at the next election cycle, it is too late. We are already hopelessly buried in debt and liberalism. With $17T in debt, the majority of the country in the gimme, gimme mode and quantitative easing as their proposed solution we are doomed. We are going down within my lifetime and going down HARD.

...that we will ever have a Libertarian as prez

Isn’t that the goal of US conservatives or at least Reagan conservatives anyway?

Reagan stated “If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism”

If anyone has followed what has occurred in North Carolina recently since their statehouse gained a super majority of republicans, we can see an example of what a conservative group does when given the opportunity.

But the idea is also the path to failure. People want goods and services and to help prevent a wide array of common types of corruption and exploitation, government steps in to regulate.

Regulation exists to stabilize the economy, and both conservatives and libertarians seek to destroy that. That’s why conservatives are consistently a bad idea and when in the White House, have an unswerving pattern of causing recessions and depressions.

I would think that until the electoral college is eliminated, the odds of any third party getting a shot is unlikely.

Ron and Rand Paul are interesting characters. They have a knack for taking completely sensible positions on discrete issue while simultaneously taking completely unworkable positions on others. For example, when Ron Paul speaks against our interventionist foreign policy, people say, "Finally, someone talking sense for a change." But then he says that everything was just fine before Medicaid and that nobody went without medical care, or words that effect. I don't think either one has any idea about how a government should be run.

I know you didn't make that comment in response to me because if you intended to respond to a specific comment you would have said so. You made that clear in another post. I'm glad your comment was not about me because I would not appreciate someone suggesting that I am incapable of objectively considering positions taken by politicians. It's odd, though, that you like to throw in these random comments that are not related to any particular statements made by others.
