They have the same 6 cylinder gas engines as the 220-280 series gas cars do. It's the old 180 series gasser motor.

These show up on Government Surplus Auctions at Government Liquidation now and then.
Parts are high. If you think you are spending a lot on your Mercedes now just wait until something breaks on one of these things. But they are useful if you are in the construction business. They are like a street legal backhoe. |

If you can do without all the construction equipment then there are plenty to choose from and older 404's for not that much money (Although the upkeep can't be a bit steep depending on what you start out with....)
However newer Unimogs are a whole other story..... UnimogŪ Exchange Unimog Pinzgauer and other Vehicles

Sorry about the link. Go to gsaauctions.gov and search for unimog. This one is in South Dakota. They have another Unimog in Wisconsin.

It's an interesting vehicle. I have to wonder how you'd operate the front loader part with a regular manual transmission and clutch though. Earth moving equipment typically doesn't have manual clutches. Many years ago when I operated a Dresser 515C articulated loader in the military I remember how easy it was as it had an electromechanical transmission. I think that's the right description. So no clutch pedal. Just shift into whatever gear you want manually. I wonder how easy it would be to try digging dirt with one of these using the clutch in comparison.
