911 is not to be called when . . .

. . . cable goes out and Breaking Bad is on soon.

Connecticut Cablevision Subscribers Call 911 After Cable Outage; Fairfield Police Not Amused - Courant.com

Quote:
The Fairfield (CT) Police Department was not amused and took to its Facebook page to post a refresher course on using its emergency system. The message read:

"We are receiving numerous 911 calls regarding the Cablevison outage. This is neither an emergency or a police related concern. Please direct your inquiries to Cablevision. 911 should only be called for Life Threatening Emergencies ONLY. Incidents that are not of an emergency nature may be reported to the Fairfield Police Department. ... Misuse of the 911 system may result in an arrest."

911 is to be called for everything. I you run out of toilet paper, you call 911. I thought everybody knew that by now.

In some locations the correct protocol is a visit to the emergency room for all toileting issues. I guess it would be thoughtful to call 911 and let the emergency room know you are on your way.

If losing your cable right before Breaking Bad comes on isn't an emergency I don't know what is.

I heard on the radio about a woman who called 911 because her fast food burger didn't have what they claimed it would have. Didn't look like the picture I guess.

Years ago, I worked for a television station during the OJ Simpson trial. On local channels, the airing of the trial superseded regularly scheduled soap operas. This seemed to make people hopping mad; they melted down the switchboard calling the television station complaining about their soap operas not being aired. WHINERS WHINERS WHINERS

So their fake soap opera got replaced by a real-life one? Hah.

Some years ago, the neighbor's cable went out. For some reason, I was outside when it happened so I overheard her conversation with the cable company. She was standing on her porch with her cordless phone in hand YELLING at the top of her lungs telling the poor schmuck at the cable company to get his a** over to her house and FIX IT NOW!! I think if someone had just killed her husband she would have been calmer on the telephone. In some households, cable is more important than life itself.
Don't f*** with the cable!!!

Not to long ago we had a customer lose her **** when she was informed that she would have to pay for a diagnosis. We hadnt done the diagnosis or charged her for it yet. Her tirade led to her calling 911 from the waiting room. Needless to say she was informed that misuse of the 911 system would lead to an arrest. Funny thing was she was on speakerphone at the time.

I wonder if Breaking Bad is as popular among LEOs as it is the general population?

In Breaking Bad, they typically portray LEO’s as dolts.

As an aside, the most recent episode was very good. The wheels are coming off the wagon, so to speak.

I've not watched it. From my distance, it's hard to see the appeal.

^While I wouldn’t encourage anyone to spend more time in front of a TV, if you like good writing and dramatic story telling, and have access to Netflix, I strongly recommend it. I write this not as a TV junkie, but as someone who loves good writing. Breaking Bad is probably one of the better stories, and absolutely one of the most compelling dramas in recent memory.

Don't you people ever watch TV? The first thing that goes in an alien attack is the TV.
