Marijuana Ruling Could Signal End of Prohibition on Pot

But on Thursday, the Department of Justice announced that it would not prosecute marijuana crimes that were legal under state law, a move that could signal the end of the country's longtime prohibition on pot is nearing. "It certainly appears to be potentially the beginning of the end," said Paul Armantano, deputy director of the pot lobby group NORML.

I think it's definitively a step in the right direction. The war on drugs is just getting old and it's way to dam expensive for a very poor return on the investment.

I'm of the impression that pot makes you dumb, but it should be your own choice to be dumb.

Like anything, it works different ways for different people, and it can be used or abused.
I don't think it makes anyone dumb, but I believe that it is abused by some dumb people.

Back in the good old days..., a little weed helped me to think outside the box and approach scenarios with a completely different perspective, which lead to completely different solutions. A very valuable thing for a guy mixing live music.
But, it is an intoxicant, and there are most certainly times when it is contra indicated....

True. Driving or operating heavy equipment right after a toke is not a good idea. Sitting in your house, watching a movie, and eating some potato chips, not a problem. The War on Some Drugs has been a terrible waste of money. Legalize, tax, treat about like alcohol.

It tended to make me paranoid....or hungry and easily amused. I think about having some from time to time but don't...haven't for over 30 years. It also dulled my thinking the next day or so too so it was just contraindicated in several ways....not needed in my life.

That said, it probably should be legalized, taxed and regulated. Being able to buy it at the grocery store will definitely take away some of the mystique.

Is this any worse than being drunk or hungover?? I worked with/around heavy equipment for 40+ years & my life was endangered only by hungover a**holes. Once seriously near death. The few stoners generally worked slooowly or stopped. The stoners usually got fired after being found out, quickly. The drunks never seemed to go away. After the closest encounter, I refused to work with hangovers. Yes, I used both, but NEVER went to work stoned, drunk, or hung over. -c-

I've been dancing around the idea of getting a MM card. In college it often caused anxiety. Maybe I should say it exacerbated anxiety as I'm a natural worrywart. Maybe legal use would negate that paranoia. With the exponentially stronger strength of new strains compared to the old Messican stinkweed we used to smoke it's a concern.
The other concern is question 11e on ATF form 4473. It's written in intentionally vague language: "unlawful user". WTF does that mean? State law, you're legal with a MM card. Federal law? Not so much. It's a federal form. Potentially felony perjury if you hold a MM card and answer "NO" to that question. A yes answer prevents a firearm purchase from an FFL holder. The horns of a dilemma.
The announcement is good news for sure, but it needs to be cast in bronze.

Who can name the satire skit from the seventies about a presidential campaign that promised he who would legalize pot if elected. Whats next you can hijack a plane if you know how to pilot it? That was another campaign promise. Seems he is getting everything done but what he promised.

My neighbor is a rec smoker who won't get the MM card cuz he says then they know who you are.

On the OP, I just got back from a week in WA state, one of my cousins says that a van parked on a corner not too far from her place (nice neighborhood) with a sign advertising pot 4 sale. One wonders how long that operation stayed in place.

I also agree. The Good Lord put this stuff on earth for us to use when needed. If it become legal, I would try it.
