Inside-out paint job
Today I painted everything on my MGB restoration project that isn't seen and all the exterior body panels are still primer. I'm tempted to leave it like this and just drive it.

When I was a teenager I had a '72 Mercury that was a yellowish green color. I didn't care, but my mom hated looking at it so much she gave me a hundred bucks and told me to get it painted. A hundred bucks wasn't enough for a real paint job, but it was enough for Maaco to shoot it in Sherwin Williams dark grey primer. It looked pretty good and I drove it like that for about a year before I got tired of replacing oil pumps and junked it.

I actually like the color combo of red and gray but I think I would put real gray on not primer

Good point. Mine had a paint job underneath the primer, and I lived in Georgia at the time, so I didn't have that issue.

Red inside and a polished aluminium body would suit that body style.

I generally think the proper colour for an MG is British Racing Green, but he's already gone Corsa Rosso on the inner bits.

The outside gets painted in 2 weeks. I just thought the primer outside/paint inside was an interesting look.

Two part primers I think are waterproof unlike single part primers. Or at least more water resistant. Single part primers are almost a thing of the past here.
I do not even remember seeing single part auto primers at our auto supply places for some time. It may just be that I was not observant though when there. This no longer being able to buy an enamel single stage paint in Canada at a body supply place is hurtful as I liked to use it on exterior metal house doors etc. Also some cars are just not worth the cost of clear base coats type of finish. |

Reminds me of my MGB project from a few years ago. I still regret selling that car.

The styling features such as the headlight partial recess and the tail lights are pure Pininfarina and nearly identical to those on my old 59 Ferrari Pininfarina coupe. I actually prefer the lines of the MGB with its more rounded forms, but the PF coupe body was hammered out by hand by old Italian metal masters not stamped out by machines so the forms were more limited by the techniques.
A one-of-a-kind 1959 Ferrari 250GT Pininfarina, sold by Californiaclassix.com! The link is to a very similar car with excellent shots of the front and rear which are so similar to the mgb. (Too bad the Ferrari in question has a small block ford in it).

Must be '70 or later...I see a hole for the rear running light. I had a '68- the last naked one. '69 had those funky reflectors IIRC then '70 got real side lights.
