Think Prius Owners Are Smug?

Just wait till this arrives:

70 mpg
18 mile range on all electric
0-62 in 5.5 seconds
Full S-Class complement of luxury features.
Ed Begley, Jr. should get one!

Smile

I will buy that big, grinning, brutal looking Mercedes Benz S-klasse as soon as they build one that runs exclusively on STUPID.

Bet they sell more Priuses than that. Actually, if it is THIS, it goes above the 70 and sets on 78.

Is suspect it will be little more than a talking point. It does have a lot of gadgets which I like but not sure how many will pay the premium over the S class for bragging rights. Sure there is a sucker born every day. Besides smugness only works with a caring audience.

Tesla is pushing the luxury brands toward Hybrid/electric. More Tesla S models were sold than Mercedes S class, Audi A8 or BMW 7series in the first half year of 2013 in their most important markets of NY and SoCal.

The push towards high mpg and lower carbon comes from the EU and US standards. With about half the S-Classes sold in the world ending up on Chinese roads, I wonder how many of the plug in hybrids will wind up there.

18 mile range on all electric? Where does that get you? The end of the driveway?

Speaking of the devils,

With all due respect to my sister, who lost her way when she moved inside the DC Beltway, .....

YA THINK Pruis drivers are smug??!! The only thing worse than a typical Prius driver is one driving a Prius with Vermont tags!!
Had a road rage moment with a 20 something female on a 4 lane who would not a) go faster than 70 and b) would not move to the right lane to let countless cars pass her. So, they all, (moi aussi), were forced to go around her to the right!

If I just used it to commute to and from work every day, I could go 6 weeks on electric alone.

And YES!

Some S-Class owners might have 18 mile long driveways.

I think it is funny that people pay way, way too much for a transportation appliance and then act like it would be stupid to pay a little bit more. Sour grapes.

Arrow "AMPED UP" Electic Car - the Tesla

Ground zero, and a brick and mortar sales showroom, for the Tesla automobile, is in NORTHERN California, would be in Silicon Valley, the high tech/computer/biotech and not too surprisingly, it is full of Tesla automobiles.

I know it because I have been going down to that area in the new BMW every week, in fact just the other day I was there again.

"If there are no pic's it didn't happen".

But it did:

Right when I was about to leave, a single Asian woman, came out to this Tesla parked next to me.. She owned it, or leased it, so it seems. She got into it alone, as I left. This occurred off the El Camino Real, - in the Sunnyvale/Mountain View area, which I have been getting to know pretty well this summer. I lot of these people have money to burn. The staff car generally is the BMW now. Hardly any Mercedes or Audis compared to all the BMWs down there. The BMW showroom was on the same block as the Zico hotel, where I stay; the new car showroom, and service department, there at BMW of Mountain View was crawling with shoppers; all of them, unsurprisingly to me, were Asian.

The evolved but lower-income "plebians" still earnestly infest the boulevards and Highway 101 around Silicon Valley in their Priuses (or it it their Priuii?)

I loved her license plate. It looked "evolved" yet no denying, it is smug, too!

Next trip I ought to go check out the showroom...maybe a take a test drive and get a brochure for one of them.

Not just Prius. Camping in the left lane is part of the Toyota experience. They describe it in the Owner’s manual as a control feature.

Reminds me of the old Bill Dana "Jose Jimenez" routine shown on "The Right Stuff"

Ed Sullivan: What is this called? A "crash helmet?"
Bill Dana: Gee, I hope not.

So true . It's on page 137 of our Corolla owner's manual.
