A good cleaning would go a ways for that car. I always loved 2002s, hope to have one someday.

I had one like that, pretty nice until my ex decided to leave it running with the AC on in the summer heat while she shopped and blew the head gasket....

There's a hard core group of BMW fanatics that insist the 2002 has always been and always will be, the only REAL BMW.

But within this group, there's a lunatic fringe that insists the only REAL BMW is the 2002 tii ....

One of those is on my bucket list. But not THIS example. This is the proverbial "sow's ear".

I bought a brand new 2002tii in 74. It was a great little car. No one around these parts knew what a BMW car was back then.

I never owned one, but drove several that belonged to friends while in Germany ca. '70 & '71. When I got back to the states I tried to describe these great cars to people that had never heard of them before. Their eyes usually glazed over.

They were great cars and actually, probably pivotal in the movement away from domestic cars in the US.

Road and Track and Car and Driver went ape$h!t over the 2002. I finally drove one in the 90s. I can see why they were a hit. No nonsense styling, raw connection to the road.

Nice car, not sure I need to own one. I can think of a few others on the bucket list that I'd get first.

My '74 Tii (Golfe yellow, also known as "Good morning officer" yellow) and my '76 Tii in fluorescent green were probably my two favorite of all time. I owned 6 or 7 '02s until they were superceded by the 320 which we used to call a "dentist's wife's car". BMW lost their way until the M3 came out. What I wouldn't give for a totally restored/tweaked Tii. At one time back in the '80s there was an outfit in Marblehead, Mass that did ground up, down to the last nut and bolt restorations. I wonder if anyone still does that.

My first '02 in '69 was a wolf in sheep's clothing. Nothing else like it at the time -- a 2 door sedan with sports car handling and acceleration that left Detroit V8 iron in the dust. The first of a new breed of "sports sedans" they were called. Ahhh.....memories.

Nostalgia ain't what it used ta be.
