You're right. I had some SuperClean once and that stuff is so strong it should be kept in a locked safe.

I now have one gallon of Rotella T in the carpet. Good thing I got working on the car tonight, the other gallon jug was all warped just waiting to dump.

I take a lot of the blame for assuming that the packaging would work as it should. On the bright side, I did not have the oil in the house when this happened.

Any suggestions for the best way to get oil out of carpet?
If you have not already started this, first spend 2.00 and buy a small bag of very fine flour. Pour enough to cover the entire affected area. Rub it in and watch it absorb the oil.
Vacuum with a garage vacuum, not mom's best.

Repeat twice.

You will get much of the oil out.

If you can get some " perc" from the local dry cleaner, it will get the rest out, then rub the flour into the stuff to get the perc and the remaining oil.

If not, try a cream-based hand cleaner and rub it in deeply.

Vacuum and repeat.

I got dried barf and God knows what off of Diana Ross's fur coat in 1969 when I was in the fur business, working my way through college.

This is what I used.

^At last an answer to the question posed by Ms. Ross long ago:

“Baby, baby, where did our love go?”

I have only been on PP for a relatively short time, but this is hands-down the best reply I have read on here. Like a surprise left hook, I wasn't expecting it, and it was incredibly effective.

The carpet should hold its shape. As for the carpet pad, those are likely done for...
That's a good point. No amount of work on the carpet is going to get rid of the oil slick below it.

When I worked at a Dry Cleaner in Greenwich Village in 1976 (during my NYU days) Iggy Pop's manager came in with a pair of Snake Skin pants that had barf all over the crotch and legs..seems some poor "groupie" lost it while "singing into the microphone"... Iggy was playing at the Academy of Music on 14th St and yes we did get it out and I delivered the pants to him at the venue...got a nice tip and a couple of lines of Elephant Crank for my work.

Thank You

I guess I had a brain cramp.

It never occurred to me to take out the carpet. Duh.

From what I have read, this is my plan to be implemented next month after I get back from the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Remove carpet. Spray the floor with Dawn and cover the floor in kitty litter, vacuum out the litter and wipe with paper towels and repeat until oil free. My daughter bought me a little shop vac for Father's Day, so I'm ahead of the game on that point.

Take the carpet to the nearby carwash. Try the flour route first using their vacuum for a couple of times. Rub GoJo or DL Cleaner into the carpet, let it soak and then hit it with high pressure spray. Use the car wash vacuum to mostly dry the carpet. Reinstall carpet after a couple of weeks of air drying.

I'll let you know the results in a month or so.
