Finally bought something useful

I'm pulling a hatterasguy on this one but check it...

I finally got around to buying a pistol

Glock G26 9mm. Bought it for occasional concealed carry and home defense/target practice.

field stripped it and cleaned the storage grease and such out of it and prepped it for going to the range. I can't wait to put some holes in paper.

Nice. You're supposed to shoot it and not clean it until all that copper is gone though. Guess it doesn't matter really as its a glock. I have a 19 and I have never cleaned it at all.

I was instructed to clean it since the copper live is meant for long term storage

Not knowing too much about pistols -- are the body, hand grip, and trigger plastic, or do they just look that way?

Hmm...had a Glock 19 back in the day. Maybe it's time to look at one again.

The lower receiver is all polymer. The mechanic portion of it all appears to be stainless.

What's the square black button on the side of the grip, mag release?

Programmable

Did you know that you can program it to turn off your TV??

Don't like the TV show? Blast it !!

That's definitely a compact firearm.

Have fun.

Post some target pics/range report.

Yes, that's the magazine release. It can be swapped to the other side for lefties. The pistol came with three magazines which is pretty darn nice if you ask me. Glocks are a little expensive but I've always wanted one and I know they will last a lifetime and go bang every time the trigger is pulled ( while loaded and pointed down range of course)

Finally bought something useful? You and everyone hopes it's never useful. If it is then some bad **** happens...

that being said it looks cool, and I'm not really a gun person.

That's what I was thinking.

Have fun target shooting, though!

Baby Glock

If you're just going to go to a range once a month and fire a hundred rounds and then carry it most of the time, that little Glock will be fine.

Every new gun should be cleaned and lubed prior to firing.

Glocks are expensive? Pre-owned barely fired Glocks are cheap. What I like most about Glocks is they're cheap to buy used, and easy to flip for an extra hundred bucks.

Esthetics are a personal matter of course, but to me the Glock is right up there on my list of the most hideously ugly pistols ever made.

Yes, they always go bang, no argument there. They are hardly unique in that regard.

"Interesting" trigger design. Google "Glock leg" and make sure you practice trigger finger manners. That trigger scares the crap out of me, especially in the hands of occasional shooters. By occasional I mean somebody who shoots less than a hundred rounds a week. To me that's about minimum for being really prepared for defensive use.

For friends who ask about tupperware pistols, I invariably recommend the SigPro SP2022. Much better looking, a real decocker, 10 or 16 round stock magazine in 9mm, night sights and better resale. I own one I've put about 5000 rounds through in 2 years and it has never once hiccuped, most of those were cast lead reloads. Oh yeah, you can't shoot cast lead in a Glock without a barrel mod.

How about this: it's useful for practicing for an event where such things might actually be useful. And as a rapid but highly expensive paper hole puncher.

Finally bought something useful

It's useful in the sense of putting holes in paper!

I probably should have gone hunting for a nice used glock but I wanted to get a new one. My next glock i find a nice used g19. I need to get a magazine extension, I can't get a comfortable grip with the short grip. I also need to train my eyes to stop ring double visony
