Why Is This Woman's Health Insurance Going Up 994%?

Why This Woman's Health Care Plan Costs 994% More Under Obamacare - Arit John - The Atlantic Wire

Because she doesn't have a Bronze plan, or a Pewter plan, or even a Lead plan . . .

the plan that Barrette paid $54 a month for is barely health insurance at all. It’s part of a subset of insurance that Consumer Reports calls “junk health insurance” (and which even the company that sells it recommends that customers not rely solely upon) and it pays only $50 towards most of the services it covers. That’s it. If Dianne went to the doctor every week for a year, her plan would pay, at most, $2600. Meanwhile, based on average office visit charges, Diane would pay about $5,600.00. She probably doesn’t go to the doctor every week, of course, which means her plan pays a lot less, while her premium buys her a lot less. If she goes to the doctor, say, six times in a year, she’s paid a $648 premium for the privilege of spending another $600 on office visits. The plan also pays up to $15 per prescription, which will get you a few milligrams of most prescription drugs. The one decent deal on her plan is that it covers 100% of in-network lab services.

Her plan does not cover any hospitalizations, unless related to complications from pregnancy. So, if she gets hospitalized and can't come up with the balance . . . who does pay?

This is the same person who if they get hurt will stiff the hospital out of $100k or go bankrupt and become a ward of the state afterwards.

Pay for insurance people...or we just nationalize it and pay for it with taxes like every other first world country does.

I used to be really against that idea until I started looking into the specifics. I have to say it keeps looking better and better.

My insurance went up $24 per year, after all of these changes.

Not too horrible - the biggest change was my primary medial insurance (Kaiser) no longer offers vision services, and I now have coverage through VSP.

The rest of my coverage stays the same. Same out of pocket yearly expenses, same copayments, deductible caps, etc.

Though my parents on the other hand... Their insurance has gone up by ~30-40%! And it's the same coverage they had before.

Finding no fault at all with what you've said, but wonder if the doctors and hospital admin chiefs would now be down from 1 new BMW annually to maybe one every 3 years.

From the picture, I'd say she's not getting pregnant anytime soon.

The woman in the CBS news story has been scheduled for three Fox News shows tomorrow, from Fox & Friends, Cavuto and then Greta.

CBS goes down the tubes and becomes a partisan news outlet like Fox!
Policy cancellations, higher premiums add to frustration over Obamacare - CBS News. Oh the horror!

Its a great idea, maybe getting enough voters to actually realize the cost of insurance by paying it will motivate them.

You think the Obamacare will make voters smarter? Your plea is the same as the authors of the bill- they want people to change. I personally believe teenage abstinence has a better chance....

Actually reporting the news, and not cheerleading is not my idea of going down the tubes. That is what news outlets are supposed to do, report the news and let you figure it out.

Does CBS have a new bureau chief in charge of the news. A segment on Sixty Minutes covering Benghazi, and this makes two this century. That is referring to news segments that don,t have a halo over some lib's head.

Why doesn't insurance actually cover dental care in a comprehensive manner?
