Elderly woman chooses slowest car on earth for a police chase

This story is hilarious, the first thing that came to my mind after reading the article was "it's a wonder the vacuum locks on her W123 worked"

Woman loses it at McDonald's over drink refill, starts police chase - CultureMap Houston

Dont forget to scroll through the photos to see her car.

will stop spikes mess up your wheels if you drive over them ?

(yes, they will disable the tires, and slow the car greatly, but can the wheels at least be re-used ?)

anyone ever been stop-spiked ?

If they're anything like the "severe tire damage" devices at rental-car lots, the spikes don't go high enough to damage the wheel and by the time the tire deflates, the wheel will be over the spikes. If she keeps driving, though, it would probably tear up the wheels

I can't count the number of times I've sat in McDonalds and watched freeloaders go for multiple free refills at the soft drink dispenser. If McDonald's had a brain to play with, they would move the soft drink dispenser BEHIND the counter which would necessitate customers having to ask for a soft drink refill.

In this day and age, a business cannot assume that people are honest; if given the opportunity, someone will take advantage by helping themselves to free refills. As long as the soft drink machine is out in the public lobby area, McDonald's is asking to be taken advantage of.

A 67 year old woman (granny), a soft drink refill (product cost: around 10 cents) and the employees start WWIII with her. Good PR move, Mcdonalds!!!!!

On another note the last few times I've visited McDonald's, there was trash, half eaten hamburgers and french fries all over the floors. Some of the employees did not speak english and therefore were unable to communicate with english speaking customers.

Thank you, but no thank you.

Yes on the trash, but as far as English-speaking ability, probably 50% of the restaurants in NY are owned and run by foreigners. It doesn't affect the food quality, at all.

And I'm sure they provide good service to customers who can understand the words they speak. For customers who only speak english, the user experience might be challenging.

As far as the trash, most any wife or mother that cares about her family's health will upon first entering a new dining establishment make a bee line for the restroom for a white glove inspection, second she will inspect the overall cleanliness, floors, seating areas, counter tops, etc. If the restroom is not clean and the rest of the restaurant looks like a bacteria breeding ground, she will turn around and take her family and her money SOMEWHERE ELSE to dine. Unless, of course, she is a pig herself.

Unlimited refills are included in the price of soft drinks at just about any restaurant I patronize these days.

One evening you get the munchies and decide to visit your local fast food establishment. It's second shift and the crew is working minus a manager. Unbeknownst to you, one of the crew members recently got into a nasty argument with their spouse.

In addition, the other crew members don't get along with the management and have recently had a heated disagreement with them.

You, innocently enough, walk in to place your order. The crew member taking your order decides that it is time for someone to pay for his/her frustrations and you seem as good as any. He/she starts a heated verbal confrontation with you FOR NO REASON. You have been singled out to take the brunt of the crew's frustrations with management, their children, their spouses, their low pay, whatever.

You respond by confronting the order taker and standing your ground. They now decide to take all of this craziness a step further and call the local po po and give them a story and a half. Prior to your arrival, they have decided that they are all going to stick together and tell the cops the SAME EXACT story regarding their interactions with you. Next thing you know, the cops arrive and you are arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You protest and they respond by towing your car to the City impound lot. They then bill you $50/day storage fees and charge you with disorderly conduct. You hire an expensive lawyer to plead your case. The judge finds you guilty and orders you to pay a $500 fine and to apologize to the restaurant crew members.

Sounds fantastic, doesn't it? All it takes is some great liars who present a creadable story to the cops and you are one cooked goose. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime for any reason. The crime is simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

returning to the OP, pretty hilarious, the woman was just raring to go. I love how in the article they mention she "slowly" left the parking lot.

I don't think nailing a senior granny over a ten cent refill resulting in her arrest and seizure of her car is hilarious at all. The cops spent more than a dime in gasoline, tire wear, wear and tear on their vehicles and most importantly, their own valuable time shaking down granny. All over a ten cent Dr. Pepper refill, mind you. NOW THAT IS HILARIOUS!!!!

Meanwhile drunk drivers, muggers, home invaders and the like were able to do their dirty work unfettered.

Okay someone fess up. What members wife was it.

Also I enjoyed the mention of any member having been road spiked giving some details. I instantly could see all us line up and confess what our experiences where.

I can honestly state I have not been stopped by this method. I am not even sure if the police use these devices locally either. Well I better be off for my daily free drink at macdonalds.
