I've never had issues with my locals. Then again, I generally drive the speed limit and obey the local traffic laws. At least now that I have kids.
Remember when we use to put leaking blivets underneath RV's when we were young?

Speaking of letting us know where the local po po hangs out, I have some RV friends who are planning a trip to Connecticut. Which counties/cities should they avoid?

What if they prefer jelly or glazed?

That's due to the lines at McDonalds and Starbucks

In this area they can be nearly anywhere. There are a few places along the roadway where i've almost never seen a patrol vehicle, but i long ago bought radar detectors for my cars and they work well. In fact they have never failed to alert me to one that's broadcasting. I noticed recently that the State troopers started to use Ka band, as well as X and K band. And of course occasionally they use laser based targeting.

Another thought; Husky has noticed that they like to hang out on Interstate highways at NIGHT, especially highways that offer trees or bushes or similar to hide behind. That way they can see you but you can't see them......sneaky.

Radar detectors are a great tool but don't forget to dial in your CB radio to channel 19 and listen to the truckers. For some reason, they have eyes in the back of their head and can spot either a "bear in the air" or a "bear on the ground" better than a bloodhound!!!

If you don't mind sharing, which brand radar detector do you recommend?

I honestly don’t remember. I bought the newest one about 14 years ago and the older one goes back nearly 16 years. I’ll check and get back to you on the brand. I bought them at a local and long since passed car parts store for about $120 or so each. It really doesn’t take much to produce excellent results and as is implied, the cops haven’t exactly advanced the technology. The only time I’ve gotten a ticket in the last 16 years or so is because I ignored the radar detector’s warnings. That has happened 2x. I don't drive really fast on the hiway or anywhere else, but have been known to exceed the speed limit, except, of course, when the radar detector starts warning me.

Besides avoiding the cities because...well...there's nothing to see, it's not really too bad except along the shoreline towns where the posted speed limits drop 10-15 mph in certain areas. They love to sit off the road just past the signs and pick folks off. Like most other similar locations, I'm sure. I like my Garmin GPS when traveling in unknown areas since it shows the posted speed limit in case I happen to miss the sign.

Other hot spots are school zones during the day and flashing stop signs on the school buses.

Valentine 1, it detects front and rear and side to side and has an audible signal and strength warning builkt in . There are false hits from garage doors, shopping centers, and so on, often times, and the first "beeps" usually sound about 1/2 mile away from where the cops hide, if you are on open level unobstructed land.

But, radar detectors don't work against LIDAR, and those are commonly used by the California Highway Patrol. And LIDAR detectors are illegal, as are radar jammers in this state.

It ALSO pays to observe cars ahead of you allowing down for no apparent reason, pretty much at once, as this is inevitably evidence that there is a patrol cruiser ahead, parked and angled for pursuit, or at the roadside, often a slicktop, with no light bars, or even all WHITE slicktop Crown Vics, formally used only for Commercial (big rig) enforcement, that are very had to detect, now being put into general traffic enforcement duties statewide, as when an Officer is sitting inside, standing outside or sitting on the rear bumper with the trunk open, pointing his radar/lidar gun at oncoming traffic. The standard patrol black and white P71 Crown Vic Police Interceptorss, last built for the model year 2011, are being replaced by SUVs and and the cop-despised new Dodge Chargers, so the all-white Crown Vic Interceptors are now becoming the last ones out there. The P71 Vic's are being retired at about 150k-200k, and when I toured their facility back in 2010, was told that about *ONE* CHP cruiser, gets wrecked, statewide, per day.

The inattentive driver that doesn't slow down too, is almost surely the one that will get nailed by the cop doing traffic enforcement duty..

They are ubiquitous and merciless: They nail motorists for going 25-27 mph on streets posted for 25 mph -- this is a fact.

my problems with the cops pulling me over ended once I started driving a 240 as a daily. Suddenly I was driving the posted speed limit, not passing people without miles of extra space, and generally driving defensively. Haven't interested a single cop since.

Im getting kinda lonely, so I might have to do some swerving to keep the spark alive

You know, I'm a lot more relaxed when driving my 300TD. Lack of power dictates responsibility!

by far the best experiences i have had with leo's has been highway patrol and maricopa county sherrif.

i was headed back from the lake one day not paying attention to the change in speed limit. got stopped by highway patrol for 20+ over. officer was cool as can be. when he asked for my license, i said sure, but before i grab for my wallet, i want you to know there is a gun strapped to my waist on that side. he said no problem at all, did his thing, asked about the fishing, and let me off with a warning.
You can tell right away if they are going to treat you like a person-instead of raw materials for processing--and this tactic almost always pays, especially at nite I keep my hands ath 1 and 10 oclock and make sure to tell them the papers are down in the door pocket--and I dont want them to feel uneasy--care and feeding of smoky the bear.

Just drive around with no plates on. I hear that does wonders.
