93 GMC Vandura?
i don't really wanna join a gm forum just to ask a question like this, friends are going to look at a 93 gmc vandura tomorrow and want me to come along to look it over... any common failure points on this chassis? it's a gasser unfortunately and is actually a "short bus". i have to imagine these things are built pretty solidly.

Leaks usually go unfixed because of the difficult space to work in.
Rust... Not much as far as MAJOR weaknesses. Pay careful attention to the transmission and oil pressure. Make sure you are the person who cold starts it. About as quality as an AMERICAN vehicle designed in the 1970s can get.

thank you!
its a california vehicle, but i'll still check for rust. apparently the transmission is not original and was rebuilt a few years ago.

I see alot of them with bad transmissions as well as ones with worn out engines. Pretty easy to tell both on the test drive.
Also not a bad idea to check the front hub for play. I've seen a few with front spindle/bearing issues.

I was given a new one by my employer to use 24/7. He paid all the gas and after a few months asked where I was traveling with the thing.
Older model though somewhere under 4 miles per American gallon in the city and maybe 7-8 on the highway. Three fifty with a stick shift. Early 80s I think. Worse gas pig I ever used. Even my larger five ton diesel truck did better. |
