Drunk girl crashes car, then asks for help and is shot...shooter isn't reprimanded?

I don't know all the facts, but it seems odd that the cops did not take the shooter into custody and drug/alcohol test him either.

Between this and the shootout between road-ragers in Ionia, why is there a lot of idiotic crap with guns coming out of MI recently? She wasn't blameless since she was driving drunk, but that's not normally a shooting offense either.

She was definitely beyond the legal limit - however, like you said that's not a reason to be shot dead.

From what I read, MI apparently has a 'stand your ground' law also - although I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this.

Bizarre. If the shooter, not sure if it was male or female, not mentioned in the story I saw, thought they were in danger, why open the door? Keeping your door shut is not retreating.

I believe the shooter was male...apparently his gun accidentally 'went off' and blew off her head. Not quite sure how one does that...

Who the hell answers the door with a pistol in hand, aimed ready to fire? I had shooting class (believe it or not in boy scout camp), first thing we learned is not to point it at anything we don't intend to shoot.

BTW - it looks like he was charged with murder after all.

It seems the message is always carry a cell/smart phone with you so you do not have to knock on anyone's door (especially in the middle of the night) seeking help or assistance. Depending on the city or town, some people are plain whacked out crazy and may do something you aren't expecting.

Except there are certain areas without reception, sometimes for miles, so going to a house might be the only possibility to use a telephone. Honestly, this is so rare that you're more likely to get hit by a bus walking TO the house.

This being said, the state of MI needs to come down hard on the putz. Murder might be hard to prove, but it sure sounds like negligent manslaughter to me.

Darwinism in action. I'm glad she didn't kill someone while she was driving drunk- nearly three times over the limit with weed in her system as well. If you are really drunk who the f*** knows what you did on someone's property at 3am? Sorry but I side with the homeowner until further facts come out.

If he felt really uncomfortable, why did he answer the door, gun or none, instead of calling the cops?

Her family's lawyer is saying that he called 9-11, then went and opened the door and "blew her head off." Also that his door had been locked (of course) and that there was no sign of attempted forcible entry. He shot her, essentially, because she was drunk and making noise on his porch.

I'd prefer to put one foot in front of the other and walk until I found an open store or business or could get a clear signal for the phone. Knocking on a stranger's door isn't worth it, especially if it turns into a shooting.

How often does that happen?

If I lived in Detroit or around that area and someone obviously out of their mind comes knocking on my door at 0230 hrs, you bet I would come with a loaded weapon. What do you expect me to do if you get crazy? Call a 2 minute time out while I go get my gun or call the cops?

That said, while I am prepared to kill you, I wouldn't shoot unless I had to. Did she make any sudden moves or threaten him? IDK. I'd wait for the trial to see what happens.
