small rant about another online parts seller

not sure how free we are to discuss competing sites even in open discussion, but we had a totally craaaappy experience with that site based in bellingham, washington. they were running a cyber monday sale today, 50% everything except used parts from 1pm until 4pm. well normally that site sells really overpriced stuff, or charges full retail for lower quality items (meyle, uro, etc.) their manuals are great, but i digress. my friends needed a hard to find part, and they had it, at a very inflated price but today at 50% it was affordable.
they got through the entire ordering process and were told at the end that theyd "already sold too many parts at a discount today" and wouldn't honor the sale, but of course they could buy the part at FULL price! they didn't even offer a lesser % off, like 30% or 25%. this wasn't even right at 4pm either, more like 3pm. they quickly took down all references to the sale. very shady and i feel terrible because i specifically recommended them to my friends, who almost got totally screwed. its not like a part was mispriced and they chose not to sell it at that price. it was an advertised sale (very hastily advertised too, only about an hour before it went live). never gonna buy anything from there again. blah.

I like some of their videos but you get right up to the punchline and it's go and buy the manual or you can get the downloadable manual and print your own and yes a lot of the stuff is cheaper elsewhere. another thing is why does does removing gum from your shoe have to have a 4 part series, i mean come on and just do it all ready. LOL

It looks/feels a little creepy at times that you can never see his hands.... LOL

I want to know why he looks like Beavis and Butthead

This. Moaning and complaining is cheap and free but accomplishes nothing. Tell your friend to man up and write the web site owner a letter. In the letter, he needs to share the exact details of what he purchased and the exact TIME he purchased it at (within the 50% sales cyber Monday time window).

Ask the web site owner to honor the ADVERTISED 50% sales price on the part.

Send the letter certified mail, no signature required, the USPS has a tracking system for tracking the letter so your friend will know when it arrives.

Note: If they had simply honored the advertised price your friend wouldn't have to write a letter. By not honoring the price, they are making your friend jump through hoops he shouldn't have to jump through. Which means this: They are now classified as a 'high maintenance' web retailer....not a good category...........

That sucks

I always liked msource. They don't offer bargains but thier videos and repair kits are well thought out. They often include special tools to make the job easier.

While they are definitely on the higher cost side, thier helpful attitude has pleased me. I hate to see them fall. Perhaps there is another explanatioin.

Nobody bats 100% all the time. That said, online car part sales is a competitive environment, to say the least. If a customer spends $10, they need to feel as though they received $20 in customer service. The value of a repeat customer cannot be underestimated. Most retailers spend untold amounts of time and marketing dollars chasing NEW customers when they should be concentrating on keeping their CURRENT customers fat, happy and most importantly, SATISFIED.

For every one customer who complains, there are a minimum of 100 customers who did NOT complain to the offending retailer. That means if only ONE customer complains to a retailer about their parts, service, etc. there are 100 customers who are UNHAPPY for whatever reason. Instead of complaining to the retailer, they air their complaints to their friends and associates. They, in turn, tell their friends. By the time the smoke clears, 1000 people will choose to NOT do business with the offending retailer.

Good news travels fast, bad news travels at twice the speed of sound.

That's an odd thing to say to a customer. Surprising that they didn't lie and say it was out of stock.

His video's are good but parts and tools sure do suck for price.

Wonder what ever happened to that huge warehouse of MB parts he found

yvairguy 12-03-2013 07:56 PM

he is always saying about the tools made right her in america, i guess he means they modify the tools right there in his shop.... i was watching a video today and laid a wrench down and it was clearly marked "CHINA" there was also another video where a tool looks like a Harbor Freight wrench

sleepstar 12-03-2013 10:50 PM

the only stuff i buy from there are some repair kits and miracle paint. the miracle paint is a really good deal actually. but in regards to the original post, i did leave a message on their facebook page but they've apparently deleted it.

the torque wrench they sell for $30 is the one you get from harbor for $10. i think they resell a lot of HF stuff actually.

yvairguy 12-04-2013 12:12 AM

hmmmmm maybe i should start selling miracle paint.....

kmaysob 12-04-2013 12:38 AM

Why do I get a feeling miracle paint is actually por15?

yvairguy 12-04-2013 12:52 AM

just went and looked at the por15 looks like some good stuff but more prep work than what i they show for the miracle paint or the stuff I think it is.

Not going to comment on the specifics of the deal as I have no experience buying anything from them.

But for those that think their prices are excessive. This is a free market capitalist society. They can charge whatever they like. Ultimately the market will decide wether they are successful or not and by implication wether or not their prices are reasonable.

I'm always a little skeptical about this forums complaints regarding pricing considering what a bunch of tight wads many of the members seem to be :D

Well the parts came today to repair my glow plug relay, less than a dollar, so this tight wad is going to take 15 min and repair it. Cheers
