Mossberg...great customer service
***Back story***
Last year, I purchased a handful of Mosin 91/30's at Dunham's on Black Friday...they were priced at $79 each. The moron that put them back in their boxes in the back of the store apparently dropped one of them, cracking the stock through the buttplate's screw hole. Dunham's has a no return policy on all firearms, so I was stuck with it. I ended up selling it in January of this year for $125 plus a used Mossberg 702 Plinkster with a Bushnell Banner 3-9X40 scope. Not a bad little profit margin...$150 .22lr with a $90 scope. **Current story** My son has been talking about the Mossberg, and occasionally pulls it out of the safe to admire it. He likes the fact that it has sights, since his Remington 597 has a scope only, no sights. He has a birthday coming up, so I figured I should clean the Mossberg, inspect it completely, and give it to him for his birthday gift. I stripped the thing down to parts, cleaned each one, and reassembled. During this process, I noticed that the sight was missing it's shade. Upon closer inspection, I could see that the blade was broken off, leaving only the ramped base. I spent 4 hours or so last night online, looking for a factory replacement front sight and shade, but turned up empty handed. This afternoon, I decided to contact Mossberg and see how much they charge. After speaking with her for a few minutes, explaining that I'm not the original owner, and what I found, she told me that she had the parts in stock. When I asked her how much the parts were, she told me that she's sending them out as a courtesy at no charge. When a company is willing to give out replacement parts for a firearm that is used and not owned by the original owner...for free...it shows what type of customer service they have. Mossberg will wind up with my next shotgun purchase later this summer. I'm planning on another 500 for a project I want to start this summer. You don't see customer service like that too often in today's world.

No, you surely don't. That's really good of them, and it will pay off.

Mossberg is one of the last local companies near me, I have never heard anything bad about their customer service.
I'm about 15 minutes from their factory...

Sounds like a better model for the Mercedes Benz dealer parts departments than what they have now. < laughs >

I've heard good things about Mossberg in that regard but don't own one, i don't think anyhow. Might be an oldie hanging around here someplace.

Their repair facility is in a border town in TX...that's where my call was directed.
I've heard many bad things about the 702 Plinkster, but those are mainly people that gripe because it's made in Brazil instead of the states. It's made by CBC, and was marketed as the CBC 7022, and Magtech 7022. Mossberg contracted with them to make it, and had a few minor things changed, such as the profile of the stock, to be able to make it a bit different. Finding parts for either of the other models has been a chore as well. I'm surprised by that...since so many of them have been made and sold.

Nice to hear that there is still a company around that operates like that.
I don't own a new Mossberg but I have two old Mossberg manufactured 22's. One a Montgomery Wards Western Field Mod 48a which is a Mossberg Model 45B made in about 1938. the other is a Hawthorne Warrior made by Mossberg (not sure if it was for Wards or not) in either the 50's or 60's. Both are very substantial feeling rifles for 22's. They are tube fed and can take almost 30 rounds of 22 short or about 20 or so LR's in them. They are both project guns which I'm hoping to have refurbished some day. - Peter.

I bought a cheap new .410 pump Mossberg this past year and have shot it more than anything else since. Nice gun, unreal price. Predators beware.

ive had a similar experience with dillon precision. i picked up a used 500 progressive press a few years back that was missing a few parts. with dillon being local in scottsdale, i stopped in to purchase the parts i needed. the owner was the one who helped me. he pulled all the parts i needed and gave them to me free.i thought that was pretty cool.

The parts came in today. They decided to send me a rear sight set too, so all of those parts got swapped out this morning. The only issue I had was that the steel hood was a real pain to slip onto the plastic front sight base. I'm not real crazy about the plastic front sight, but it's what it came with, and I didn't have to pay a penny for the replacements.

Mossberg 702 Rifle - adjustable aperture sights I put a set of these type of sights on my Marlin .22 and didn't look back. Pricey (half the price of the rifle) but worth it if you shoot it a lot.

I looked at those, and considered taking the plunge, but couldn't justify the expenditure at the moment. The factory replacements were free...it was the obvious choice at the moment.
The rifle will go to my son tomorrow for his birthday...he'll be 15.
