Made me laugh out loud...

Republicans promote ways of helping the poor

By KEN THOMAS
Associated Press

Faced with an empathy gap before the 2014 midterm elections, Republicans are trying to forge a new image as a party that helps the poor and lifts struggling workers into the middle class.

If it made you laugh, then that is testimony of just how effective the left wing media spin machine really is.

I just think that link was surprised at this sudden and transparent attempt of the Republican Party to philosophically whore themselves to constituents who have the bad manners to be non-white, non-old, and non-male.

The "hook" to that old Republican bromide, is that "in America, YOU TOO, can succeed in becoming a corporate titan. ANYBODY with sufficient motivation can do it.

Ah see it as an act of desperation. They failed with Sarah, and then failed with Mitt and Paul Ryan, and now they have turned to other ways to fail. They know they’re gonna get slaughtered in the swing states at the mid-terms and after the .gov shut down even some typically gop states may just change. In any event the GOP is clearly hoping that the voting poor has a memory longer than most gold fish. And, history shows that in some cases, they don’t, or do, depending on which side of that ambiguous comment you land.

While I am in no way wanting to or trying to defend the Republicans, the Democrats have been running on a platform which ostensibly includes helping the poor for as long as I've been voting (26 years) and longer. It would appear that the GOP just needs to get into the habit of repeating it long enough for people to buy into it. Actual results aren't important.

The long running era of the benefits of conservative politics on the .fed level was largely destroyed by GWB. I will grant that the GOP would help themselves by supporting social policies that aid the poor, but they lack the ability to change or even start a track record that hints at that kind of change.

It reminds me of back about 20 years ago when the us car mfgrs were getting hammered on quality issues by the Japanese. Our companies responded by talking about quality more in their advertising. It worked a little for a while but eventually they had to start improving actual quality because nobody trusted them any more.

Same with the GOP.

That reminds me what I heard back in the '72 campaign.

"Nixon looks like a used car salesman".

"And McGovern looks like the guy that BOUGHT one".

Out here, I think it was in Oakland, a Democratic candidate got in HUGE trouble with the party, after the media publicized a campaign event where the guy (black guy) was giving out free fried chicken dinners to the crowd, (almost ALL of them Afro-Americans) in exchange for promised votes.

Couple of pretty bad stereotypes in play. Oops!

Did not go over well at ALL with MANY folks .....all over the political spectrum .

Just imagine that.
