I thought that it was a classic or 90s Camaro. Then I saw that it was one of the new bloated, faux-retro GM creations, and I thought "good riddance."

the new ones just aren't as 'honest'.

The car that comes to mind is the Honda S2000. they loudly advertise some ridiculous power rating (250hp)coming from 4 cylinders. woohoo..

but what they don't show is how they get to 250hp.

Remember that HP=torque x rpm / 5252

the redline of the car is really high (10,000 rpm maybe) to make up for the low torque of a 4 cylinder.

Makes for good marketing I suppose. I just think it is dishonest because it will feel like a much slower car compared to a V8 that produces the same HP.

The honda is not dishonest, just different from most cars in the way it delivers power. The 9500 rpm redline was a plus and well advertised to potential buyers. To a potential buyer of an s2000 its a plus not a minus.

Torque from a four cylinder can be better than from a v12 because of less friction loss....hence ferrari racing cars of the fifties sometimes has four or six cylinder engines while other models, some road cars had v12's. Ferrari even bench tested a two liter one or two cylinder...it made a lot of power but destroyed their bench....

You want torque, getta vette!

I'm not talking about HP delivery. I'm talking about them being ugly and bloated. More barges than sporty cars. And they try too hard to be retro.

I like the 2005ish GTO far better. Great powertrain, suspension, etc in a modern, understated body. Sadly, Americans have gone for overstyled pap, ever since tailfins got big in the 50s, so it didn't sell.

Back in 69 I was working at a Chevy dealership which got one of the first 427 Camaros. That thing probably went thru 2 sets of tires before it ever left the lot in a buyer's hands. Everyone and their brother in the dealership wanted to drive it and see what it could do. Every time someone got in it there was a cloud of rubber smoke as it left the lot.

The earliest ( and least well known) and also the speed record holder until the 2002 earnheart ss was the 67 dana 427.

Nothing terribly special about the car...
Guy should have had his insurance buy him a new one just like the old one, and then subrogate with the dealer's insurance.
Generally speaking, in such cases your insurance company will be very helpful and will ensure that you are happy with the outcome, then put the screws to the other side...

If all I wanted was torque, probably a big pickup truck with a huge diesel engine would be a better choice, like a Dodge Cummins, Ford Powerstroke or a Chevy Duramax.
